The University of North Texas, College of Information, Health Informatics Program is pleased to announce three online course offerings for summer 2010…

 

SLIS 5960: Genomics for Information Professionals

**New Course**

 

Students in the course will learn basic concepts in genomics, personalized medicine, and translational medicine, explore genomic information resources, and examine the role that information professionals have to play in providing genomic information to researchers, clinicians, and health consumers.

 

The course instructor is Kristi L. Holmes, PhD, Bioinformatics Specialist, Bernard Becker Medical Library, Washington University School of Medicine.

SLIS 5670: Disaster Management for Information Professionals

 

Students in the course will learn about the information behaviors of populations involved in disasters, resources and programs to meet the needs of the populations during and after a disaster, and disaster planning issues.

 

The course instructors are Ana D. Cleveland, PhD, AHIP and Tisha Pipes, MS from the University of North Texas.

 

SLIS 5960: Community-Based Health Information

 

Students in the course will learn skills to provide consumer health and public health information services and programs, with a focus on the information needs of the community. In addition, students will be introduced to major consumer health and public health information resources.  

 

The course instructors are Deborah Halsted, MLS, MA, Senior Associate Director of Operations, Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library and Helena VonVille, MLS, MPH, Director, University of Texas School of Public Health Library.
