The spring 2010 issue of the
University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences newsletter, Interface,
is now available at http://www.sis.utk.edu/alumni/interface.
This issue reports on several
innovative faculty research projects. Dr. Dania Bilal, for example, has been
exploring the information seeking behaviors of autistic children and asking the
question: how does their interactions with digital media, social networking,
and mobile devices influence their ability to solve problems, form community,
and share information.
Two notable scholarship
programs are taking shape to welcome the next class of students. The
Information Technology Rural Librarian Master’s Scholarship Program will
welcome 16 practicing rural librarians to campus this summer, while six
incoming PhD students are recipients of the IMLS-funded ScienceLinks2 project.
The undergraduate minor in
Information Studies and Technology is growing and developing rapidly thanks to
Dr. Singh’s leadership, and the spring issue takes a look at some of the
reasons for this success.
Finally, the school welcomes
two outstanding new faculty members to its ranks, Dr. Kimberly Douglass and Dr.
Devendra Potnis. Our School is paving multiple innovative pathways this year
thanks to the talents, creativity, and research prowess of our students,
faculty, and alumni. We invite you to explore this issue to learn more.
