Science Reference Librarian

The primary purpose of this position is to provide reference services to scientists and engineers and to participate in collection development activities that support the research mission and operations of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution is required with a minimum of one year of experience in a reference library setting. The incumbent should possess a strong customer service orientation, knowledge of general and scientific information resources and services and a strong interest in fostering customer relationships.



Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively on a team is required. Must be self-motivated, self directed, results-focused and committed to achieving goals. Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills and a high degree of computer literacy with proficiency in office automation software (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint and Word) are required.



QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: Reference experience in a scientific/technical library or information center education or work background in science or science information resources and services. Possess an interest in and aptitude for computer technology and the ability to communicate effectively with the IT organization is desired. Experience with using web authoring tools (e.g., Dreamweaver) is highly desired. Awareness of current trends and issues in web technology, generally referred to as Web 2.0 and 3.0 is preferred. Experience with searching scientific databases such as SciFinder, Dialog, INSPEC, Web of Knowledge, or other scientific databases is desired.
