Hey guys,

so this weekend we have our annual clear creek.  If you haven't gotten any equipment for this trip yet, please go to UTOP and pick up your equipment before 6:00 pm today as they are not open tomorrow.  Also if you need to see the packing list, it is posted below.  If you are going please be at lot 66 by 9:00 am Friday morning.

4/10 - IJAMS nature center clean up -  Come help out and clean up the river side as we canoe around and pick up trash.
4/11 - Wild flower hike - We will be hiking throgh the smokeys on a trail known for its wild flower display.  The hike will be about 4 miles.

4/14 - Any one who will be here next year and plans on being a part of the club, please come to this meeting and vote on new officers.  You can nominate someone else or yourself, so start thinking who would be a good candidate....

After the clear creek trip, we don't have anymore trips.  If anyone wants to propose/lead a trip over the month of april, please let me know and I will help out with getting that set up.

Also, UTOP is offering a SOLE class next year as a credited course.  The class will go over the basics of outdoor leadership.  If anyone is intersted, you need to get in touch with Benjy or Susan Bean at UTOP so you can schedule a meeting time.  I have attached information on the SOLE leadership class in this email.  FYI, last I heard this class is filling up fast, so if you are interested talk to UTOP ASAP.

Below is the clear creek info......  have a good easter

This is a three day canoe trip with two nights of camping on the river. From the put-in on Hwy 127 near Clarkrange there are 20 miles of uninterrupted forest until the next bridge.  No houses, no road, no people; just wilderness, clear water, wildlife, and some incredible scenery.  Rightfully so, the entire run is designated as a Nation Wild and Scenic river. It is best know for its rockhouses. For one short section, the entire creek cuts under a deep over hanging ledge. Expect to see turkey, deer, beaver, and the occasional river otter.

The whitewater on this trip is rated as class II with one class III+ on the last day. There will be places that require portaging due to log jams, rock jumbles and downed trees in the river.  With boats full of camping gear this will be physically demanding, so PACK LIGHT! Don’t bring anything you wouldn’t take on a backpacking trip.  Leave the lounge chairs, canned goods, hound dogs and beer coolers at home.

Proper preparation for this trip is critical. Each person will be responsible for carrying their own gear in their own boat and for bringing the necessary food, clothing and camping gear for a three-day trip.  You and your gear will get wet. This is not a big deal as long as you’re prepared.  I’ll do a demo on how to pack and what to bring at the March 24th meeting. Plan on spending 3 or more hours packing the night before the trip.  A suggested packing list is on the back of this sheet.
