Parents Association Member Benefit Spotlight

Parent Helpline

The Parents Association provides a Parent Helpline to assist you with any questions or issues you may have. The helpline number is (865) 974-4546, and it is staffed Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern time. We understand how important it is to keep parents and guardians informed. If you have any questions or just need to be put in contact with the right department, we are here for you. Important Information for Students

Important Registration Deadline

Monday, April 12, is the last day for students to drop a second session course with a grade of "WP/WF". Click here for more information on withdrawing from a course, as well as a complete explanation of possible course grades and marks.

Mini-Term Registration

VolXpress e-statements for Mini-Term 2010 will be available beginning Tuesday, April 13. The Mini-Term 2010 Payment/Confirmation of Attendance due date is Thursday, May 6 at 4:30 PM. Mini-Term classes begin on Wednesday, May 12.

Women's Leadership Program Leadership Workshop Series

The Office of Student Orientation and Leadership Development is excited to continue the "Women at Work" Leadership Workshop Series as part of the Women's Leadership Program. Free and open to all students and staff, these workshops will highlight various topics surrounding women and leadership in the work setting. The next workshop is entitled Work and Home/Life Balance and will be presented by Dr. Margaret Sallee on Tuesday, April 13 at 4:00 PM in University Center room 221. Click here for more information.

Career Services Events & Programming

How to Interview Workshop

Career Services will present the "How to Interview" workshop on Thursday, April 8, from 4:00-5:00 PM in the Career Services office located at 100 Dunford Hall. This workshop is designed to help students learn how to prepare for an interview in terms of researching themselves, thinking about why an employer would want to hire them, researching the employer, knowing what to expect in an interview, and how to dress properly. The workshop will cover typical interview questions and questions that students might wish to ask the employer. Click here to watch even more workshops online!

Social Networking and the Job Search Workshop

Career Services will present a workshop on "Social Networking and the Job Search" on Monday, April 12 from 1:30-2:30 PM in the Career Services office located at 100 Dunford Hall. Students should attend this workshop to learn how social networking sites can help and hurt their job search. Students will also find out how to get connected with employers and recruiters online and set up and develop their personal LinkedIn profile! This hands-on session will help students develop their online presence in a positive way! Space is limited, so interested students should RSVP by sending an email to [log in to unmask].

Graduate School Admissions 101

On Wednesday, April 14 Career Services will present a Graduate School Admissions 101 workshop from 4:00-5:00 PM in the Career Services Classroom in 100 Dunford Hall. Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of graduate school admissions, including timelines, application materials, testing information and more. Engineering, Science & Technology Virtual Career Fair

Career Services will present the Virtual Career Fair on April 14-15. Engineering, Science & Technology students and alumni are invited to attend the UT Virtual Career Fair, a unique virtual event that helps job seekers meet employers in an efficient, environmentally-conscious way. The virtual career fair will provide the opportunity for students to explore jobs and register to win an iPod Nano, interact via chat sessions from the comfort of their computer, learn about employers that may not attend other campus events, and save valuable time by searching for a job online. Students are encouraged to register early for maximum exposure to participating employers and can register through April 13. UT Science Forum

The UT Science Forum presents Bob Hatcher, Professor and Distinguished Scientist, Earth & Planetary Sciences, at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 9, in Thompson-Boling Arena dining rooms C-D. The topic is "Evidence for a 25,000-Year History of Earthquake Activity in Eastern Tennessee." The event is free and open to the public. Friday Night 5K

The Friday Night 5K is a one-of-a-kind event designed to promote community involvement and raise funds for Clinic Vols and Food for Kids, two specific programs that both directly benefit elementary-aged children in the community surrounding the University of Tennessee's campus. The race will take place on Friday, April 16, at 6:00 PM on and around UT campus. Encourage your student to click here for more information and to register.

UT Libraries Acquires Its 3 Millionth Volume

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the UT Libraries, and many of its friends and benefactors recently celebrated the acquisition of the Libraries' 3 millionth volume, "TSVLVKI SQCLVCLV, A Cherokee Spelling Book." The Cherokee speller was published in Knoxville in 1819. The Libraries' copy is one of only three known to exist. Click here for more information on this milestone.
