Semester End Approaching, Classes Ending, Finals NearingThe last day of classes for the spring 2010 semester is Friday, April 30. This date is also the deadline for a total withdrawal from the University for the spring semester. The final exam period for students begins on Tuesday, May 4 and lasts through Tuesday, May 11. Graduation Deadline ApproachingIf your student is planning to graduate in the fall semester of 2010, he or she must submit an application for graduation by the last day of spring 2010 semester classes, Friday, April 30. Encourage your student to click here for more information. Parents Association ScholarshipsApplications are currently available online for the Parents Association Academic, Leadership, and Service scholarships. Parents Association scholarships are available exclusively to students of Parents Association members and are funded through support of the Parents & Families Fund. Encourage your student to visit http://parents.utk.edu for more information and to access the scholarship applications. The deadline for your student to submit an online application, and bring a copy of his or her academic history/transcript to the Parents Association office is 4:30 PM on Friday, April 23. UT Housing Cancellation DeadlineThe last day to cancel a housing contract for the 2010-2011 academic year is Saturday, May 1, 2010. Students may cancel their contract one of three ways: in person at the Housing Office in 405 Student Services (open 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday through Friday), via letter or fax (the fax number is 865-974-1420), or by sending an email to [log in to unmask] from their T-mail account. The cancellation request should include the student's full first, middle, and last names, his or her UT student ID number, and the reason for cancelling. After May 1, cancellations will only be accepted for students who will not be enrolled in classes for the Fall 2010 semester. Baker, Jr. Center for public will host Dr. Tammy Taylor on Monday, April 19, at 7:00 PM in the Toyota Auditorium. Dr. Taylor supports the Executive Office of the President's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) as a Senior Policy Analyst. Using the example of nuclear detonation response preparedness, Taylor will discuss the mission and goals of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) at the Executive Office of the President and provide information on how the office accomplishes its mission though various interagency coordination. Great Decisions Program Presented by Ready for the WorldThe Great Decisions Program, coordinated by the Center for International Education and funded by the Ready for the World initiative, will bring five speakers from around the country to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville this semester to address our nation's most pressing foreign policy issues. The next lecture, entitled "U.S.-China Security Relations," will take place on Tuesday, April 20, at 7:00 PM in the Great Room of the International House and will feature David Michael Lampton, dean of faculty and director of China studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Parents Association Member RenewalWe have already kicked off our annual member renewal period for Annual members. If you are an annual member of the UT Parents Association, it's time to renew your membership to ensure your member benefits will not be interrupted. Benefits of membership in the Parents Association include the Annual Parent Handbook, local hotel and business discounts, Family Weekend events, and weekly emails like this which contain valuable information and deadlines. Also, your student is eligible to apply for Parents Association scholarships annually. You may renew online or by mail using the envelope included with your Spring Tennessee Family magazine. UT Potters Club Spring SaleThe UT Potters Club will hold its Spring Sale from 9:00 AM-6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 14, and Thursday, April 15, in the Art + Architecture Building Atrium. The sale features handmade functional and sculptural work created by faculty, students and alumni. Proceeds support scholarships and visiting artists. Click here for more information. Relay for LifeThe main event for Relay for Life at UT will take place on Friday, April 16, at 6:00 PM until Saturday, April 17, at 6:00 AM in Circle Park. There will be food, live music, games, contests, prizes, drawings, and so much more! Students and members of the UT community are encouraged to come out and support the fight against Cancer! To sign up or make a donation, click here. Temporary Road Closure on CampusConstruction work on a section of Andy Holt Avenue has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 17, and Sunday, April 18. The eastbound lane of Andy Holt Avenue between Volunteer Boulevard and Phillip Fulmer Way will be closed after the end of the Orange and White Game on April 17 and will remain closed until approximately 6:30 PM on April 18. Workers will make infrastructure improvements to the water and sewer lines serving Neyland Stadium. The westbound lane of Andy Holt Avenue next to the University Center and the Haslam Business Building will remain open to one-way traffic from Phillip Fulmer Way. The section of Andy Holt Avenue is expected to reopen on Monday, April 19. For more information, click here. UTPD to Offer Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) ClassesUT students are invited to empower themselves and enroll in Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D) classes. Basic RAD classes will take place Monday, April 19, Wednesday, April 21, and Friday, April 23, from 5:00-9:00 PM at the UT Police Department located at 1101 Cumberland Avenue. RAD is the nationally recognized standard for women's self-defense that provides realistic, hands-on training with a free lifetime return and practice policy. Designed to help reduce the risk of rape and learn avoidance strategies, RAD is taught in a relaxed, comfortable training environment.
