Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor

and Full-Time Lecturers

 

The College of Communications and Information Studies at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor and full-time lecturer positions

Tenure-track position: Ph.D. in library & information science or related field required; expertise required in at least two of the following: information literacy, oral, written, visual, or digital communication. Evidence of excellence in teaching, and research and publication commensurate with departments in Research I universities required. Experience teaching LIS courses is desired. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, actively engaging in research, and participating on program and student committees. Primary instructional responsibilities will focus on teaching the new integrated communication skills (oral, written, visual, and digital with an information literacy component) two-course general education sequence at the freshman level. The person hired will teach four sections per year: three sections of the new skills courses and one graduate or undergraduate course in his or her area of content specialization. This professor will join a team of four that will train staff and supervise these new core courses; collegiality and collaborative skills are essential.  Appointment will be in the School of Library & Information Science. Appointment will begin August 15, 2011, pending final budgetary approval.

Lecturers: Ph.D. or dual Master’s degrees in library and information science, communication and/or related fields; expertise required in at least two of the following: information literacy, oral, written, visual, or digital communication; Evidence of excellence in teaching and service required. Experience teaching LIS courses is desired. Primary instructional responsibilities will focus on teaching the new integrated communication skills (oral, written, visual, and digital with an information literacy component) two-course general education sequence at the freshman level. The person hired will teach six sections per year: five sections of the new skills courses and one graduate or undergraduate course in his or her area of content specialization. In addition, each lecturer will participate in related professional development activities (e.g., advising, mentoring, teaching a course in his or her content specialization, participating on program committees) each semester. Appointment will be in the School of Library & Information Science. Appointment will begin August 15, 2010, pending final budgetary approval.
