The University of Oklahoma School of Library and Information Studies is honoring Professor June Lester, who will retire at the end of Spring semester 2010. Dr.
Lester is internationally known for her work in library education and accreditation. Among her many other publications, she is the author of a widely-used textbook, Fundamentals of Information Studies: Understanding Information and Its Environment, with Dr. Wallace Koehler, now in its second edition. She was the Director of the School from 1993 until 2000, and was Associate Dean at the University of North Texas School of Library and Information Sciences from 1991 to 1993. Prior to that, Dr. Lester was the Director of the Office of Accreditation for the American Library Association.

The School will host two celebrations in her honor:

·   one, sponsored by the OU School of Library and Information Studies’ Alumni Association at the OLA conference in the Renaissance Hotel, Oklahoma City, Monday, April 19, 5:30-6:30 PM

·  another, sponsored by the School at OU’s Memorial Union, University Club, Norman campus, Monday, April 26, 4:30-6:30 PM.

Friends and colleagues from the professional organizations in which she has served in various capacities as well as her current and former students are encouraged to submit letters detailing their experiences with Dr. Lester. These letters will be placed in a memories book that will be presented to her during the retirement celebration.
