*Collections Management Internship*

A wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in farming and American
history, The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth, VT
is offering a collections internship this summer.
   The Coolidge Historic Site is a National Historic Landmark and is
regarded as one of the best preserved presidential sites in the nation.  The
site contains 25 buildings and 560 acres.  Many of the objects in the
collection belonged to the Coolidge family and date from the late 18th to
early 20th centuries.
   Interns will focus on cataloging late 19th/early 20th
century agricultural tools and equipment using PastPerfect software.
Although the emphasis will be on enhancing the collection database,
the position allows flexibility for individual projects and interests. The
internship will last between four and ten weeks.  Although there is no
stipend, free on-site housing with kitchen facilities is provided.  Remote
rural location requires intern to have own transportation.

Qualifications:  Interest and knowledge of American history.  Should either
be enrolled in or a recent graduate of an
undergraduate or graduate program emphasizing history, museum
studies, sustainable agriculture, natural resources, or related field.

* Background:** *Pennypacker Mills is the home of Pennsylvania’s
twenty-fifth Governor Samuel. W. Pennypacker (1903-1907). The mansion, barn

and 170-acres of property are interpreted during the time the Governor lived
here from 1900 through 1916. Within the historic barn,

Pennypacker Mills seeks to develop interactive exhibits and demonstration
areas for a variety of age levels which reflect key themes

interpreted at the site.

* Description of project: *Four interactive exhibit areas focusing on
energy, water, transportation, and communication during the early twentieth
century will be developed. Four stations will be constructed where
reproduction items will be used as a hands-on component for the interpreting
the themes associated with everyday life - a kitchen area, laundry area,
peddler’s cart, and a general store. Outside the barn, a Children’s Heritage
Garden is planned.

* Specific Tasks:*

·  Research of each exhibit theme will be accomplished to determine what
information should be presented and how to create interactive stations.

·  Exhibit planning will be undertaken to develop layout of the areas which
considers logical placement of stations and exhibits, flow of visitors,
storyline, and spatial needs.

·  Hands-on activities/lessons will be developed for each exhibit and
station for a variety of age levels to coordinate with the PA Curriculum
Standards

·  A training manual will be developed to train staff and volunteers in
offering these programs.

·  Help with other site events and activities.

* General Information:*

The site is flexible with working hours and specific internship
requirements. The site is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm;
Sunday, 12 to 4 pm. We are closed Mondays and major holidays.

The Still National Osteopathic Museum, Kirksville, MO is currently offering
an unpaid internship to assist with collections management during the summer
of 2010.  The intern will be a part of the ongoing Museums for America grant
awarded to the museum in the fall of 2009.  As the only museum dedicated to
the history of osteopathic medicine, the Still National Osteopathic Museum
collects artifacts that trace the history of the osteopathic profession
throughout the world and preserves these unique resources for present and
future visitors and researchers.

Specific responsibilities include:

   Photograph and scan the collection

      Assist with entering catalog information into PastPerfect

      Maintenance and documentation of the collection

      Pack and relocate the collection

      Other collections management issues, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

      Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in
history, museum studies, preservation, library sciences or related field.
Knowledge of PastPerfect a plus.

Lead Archivist (full-time)

Assistant Archivist (full-time)
Under the supervision of the Lead Archivist, the Assistant Archivist
will organize, catalog and create finding aids for manuscript
materials at the ONE Archives. Candidate must have knowledge of basic
archival tasks as well as experience in creating EAD finding aids.
Candidates must also have knowledge of current technologies such as
XML and other web-based applications; experience with arrangement and
description techniques; experience with standardized description,
including LCSH, DACS, MARC and EAD; excellent interpersonal and
communication skills; ALA-accredited MLS or related advanced degree;
and ability to lift materials weighing 30-40 pounds. Candidate should
have formal course work in archives and one to two years experience in

needed.  Preferred candidates will have familiarity with Archivists’

2010 Summer Archives Assistant
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

The MFAH is seeking a Summer Archives Assistant to aid in the daily
operation of the museum's archives. Half of the assistant's hours will
be devoted to two projects: 1) the appraisal and processing of early
MFAH accounting and financial records; 2) the forensic examination and
migration of the museum's electronic legacy data. Work will be
conducted in accordance with standard conventions. The remaining half
of the assistant's hours will include providing reference services and
assisting with other duties necessary to the operation of the Archives
Department. The Summer Archives Assistant is invited to attend
behind-the-scenes tours and lectures hosted by the Education
Department.

Requirements:
Current enrollment in accredited Masters in Library Science or
Archives Studies program.
Completion of basic archives course at graduate level or prior work
experience in archival or special collection setting. Completion of
basic records management course beneficial.

Knowledge of MARC, DACS, LCSH and AACR2r strongly preferred.
Experience using OCLC and forensic software DROID and JHOVE beneficial.
