ENTERPRISE INFORMATION ARCHITECT-LEAD

 SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Enterprise Information Architect (EIA) - Lead is responsible for developing content architectures; developing interfaces and specifications for applications to facilitate information access and delivery; and integrating content management strategies with organizational applications and digital content preservation initiatives. The EIA-Lead will help take the Foundation’s SharePoint implementation to the next level, providing expertise in the planning and design of SharePoint collections to enhance findability and ensure clarity of content purpose and goals. S/he works closely with content stakeholders and colleagues to identify, define, and solve user-experience-related issues. This includes collaborating on design concepts, gathering and documenting users’ content requirements, and translating requirements into system specifications. S/he partners with software architects and engineers to propose elegant solutions that enrich users’ content management and discovery experiences. The EIA-Lead also participates in resolving search-related issues and enriching enterprise taxonomies to ensure efficient information retrieval from internal web sites and internal data repositories. The EIA-Lead is a key participant in web-related content management projects, particularly ongoing development of the Foundation’s intranet site. S/he understands web projects from the perspectives of content architect, provider, and consumer. S/he is expected to employ research methods including content and task analysis, usability testing, and stakeholder interviews to identify problems and opportunities. The EIA-Lead supervises staff and manages projects within the EIA unit. S/he also may supervise the work of other department staff, temporary staff, or consultants working on special projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

·   5–7 years’ work experience as an information architect, interaction designer, or user experience designer on large-scale web initiatives.

·   Master’s or Bachelor’s degree or combination of equivalent experience in knowledge management, information architecture, human computer interaction, or library and information science or other relevant field; knowledge of information science principles and practices.

·   Experience in supervising and coordinating the work of professional staff and managing complex projects.

·   Significant experience in MOSS 2007 site governance and content administration; familiarity with workflows and third-party SharePoint solutions.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

·   Significant project management experience

·   Background in user-centered design, usability standards, information design, interaction design, and goal-oriented design

·   Comprehensive portfolio of recent work

·   Solid understanding of HTML, DHTML, CSS, Flash, AJAX, and related web technologies as well as Visual Basic, Java, and other object-oriented languages; substantial knowledge of XML

·   Experience in design and development of digital library architecture and tools

·   Understanding of principles of good graphic design

·   Experience in enterprise search implementation and search engine optimization

·   Hands on, front-end web development experience

The Society of the Cincinnati, a nonprofit institution that maintains its historic house museum and research library at Anderson House in Washington, D.C., offers two museum internships for Summer 2010--

Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati Internship:

The Society of the Cincinnati offers the 2010 Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati Internship to an individual looking to gain experience in preparing museum exhibitions.  This summer’s intern will assist museum staff in researching themes and objects for several upcoming exhibitions, including France in the American Revolution and a bicentennial commemoration of the War of 1812.  The internship carries a $2,000 stipend through the generosity of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.

Applicants should be graduate students studying history, art history, material culture studies, museum studies, or related subjects who are interested in a future museum career.  Strong research and writing skills and the ability to work independently are important.  Students with a dedicated interest in the history and material culture of eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century America are encouraged to apply.  The Massachusetts Society Internship requires a minimum of six weeks of full-time work or ten weeks of part-time work.  Start and end dates are flexible.

Collections Management Internship:

The Society of the Cincinnati also offers a collections management internship to an undergraduate or graduate student interested in the care and preservation of museum objects.  The museum’s collections comprise more than 4,000 works of art and artifacts including portraits, armaments, furniture, textiles, and other decorative arts objects.

This summer’s intern will participate in a variety of collections management activities.  The intern will research and catalog art and artifacts, resolve discrepancies in object records, rehouse collections objects, and assist staff in obtaining and reviewing environmental data in museum storage and public spaces of Anderson House.  Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students studying history, art history, material culture studies, museum studies, or related subjects who are interested in pursuing a museum career.  The internship requires a minimum of six weeks of full-time work or ten weeks of part-time work.  Start and end dates are flexible.  The collections management internship is unpaid.

Coordinates and directs departmental operations and ensures the delivery of high quality youth services to children, middle school teens, families and child care providers, community youth serving organizations and the community.

Hires, trains, supervises, and monitors the performance of assigned library personnel; ensures staff compliance with the District’s library policies and procedures.

Prepares employee work schedules, assigns work duties, and monitors departmental work flow.

Develops, implements, and evaluates youth and/or other programming for children, middle school teens, families and child care providers.

Promotes library programming through the use of program brochures, event posters, electronic notifications, and personal contacts.

Coordinates youth program activities conducted at childcare facilities and public/private schools.

Delivers library programming including story times, book discussion groups, and other programs.

Supervises and conducts public outreach activities for area of assignment; promotes library services and resources to educational institutions, social/health agencies, and community groups.

Manages and maintains assigned youth services collection including weeding materials, providing collection recommendations, re-ordering materials, and processing new books.

Creates rotating book displays and ensures the proper maintenance of youth areas within assigned library facility.

Participates in Youth Services district-wide projects and/or training including conducting research and creating training modules.

Develops, updates, and presents youth programming training workshops to District staff.

Provides customer assistance and reference/readers advisory services to library patrons; conducts reference interviews and assists patrons in locating library materials and information.

Develops and administers programming budgets, monitors expenditure, and prepares requests for program funding as assigned.

Coaches TRL youth services providers in a designated area.

Participates in developing library facility goals and establishing departmental objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Library Science, and two years youth services experience, including one year supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Online Marketing and Communications Manager

The position of the Online Marketing and Communications Manager at the National Building Museum is a new role. The Museum is focused on using online technology to fulfill its mission of educating the public about the building arts and sciences. The Manager will be responsible for increasing the profile, outreach, and exposure of the Museum through multimedia and social media; virtual marketing, advertising, and promotion; online publications, blogs, and newsletters; and interactive collaborations with partners. The Manager will be responsible for developing and executing the Museum’s online strategic plan and working across departments to produce and publish content for the web. 

The successful candidate will be a skilled manager with the ability to work both independently on detail-driven tasks as well as work cross-functionally to accomplish major long-range initiatives. The manager will also possess the necessary skills to collaborate effectively with vendors, sponsors, the news-media, and the general public. Strong written, verbal, and project management skills are required.

Founded in 1812, the Academy is one of the oldest natural sciences institutions in the Western Hemisphere. The Library provides high quality information services to Academy research staff, its members, and other clients including scientists, historians, artists, graduate students, corporations, and members of the public with advanced interests in the natural world.

The Ewell Sale Stewart Library <http://www.ansp.org/library/index.php> of the Academy stands as one of the world’s finest natural history libraries, focusing on systematics, evolutionary, ecological, environmental and natural history subjects. Its collections are remarkable with nearly 200,000 volumes ranging from works published in the 1500s to current serials and monographs from all over the world. The collection contains lengthy runs of serial publications dating back to the 18th century, as well as stunningly beautiful illustrated works from the 18th and 19th centuries. The archives collection comprises close to one million Academy documents and unpublished materials derived from the collections of scientists and others associated with the Academy.

The Head Librarian supervises the library staff and volunteers and is responsible for planning, development, operations and management of the collections including personnel, budget, resource development, security, policies, and facilities. The head actively participates in providing and developing reference and research services. These activities are coordinated with the President and trustees of the Academy and the Vice President of the Center for Systematic Biology and Evolution. The head identifies projects for possible grant funding and works with Institutional Advancement staff to prepare grant proposals. The head serves on the advisory committee of the Friends of the Library.

Applicants should have a degree in library or information science from an accredited institution, as well as a record of at least five years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic or research library:

* Strong computer skills, including experience with relevant library computer systems software and scientific abstracting and indexing databases;
* Knowledge of emerging technologies and their application to libraries;
