Amherst College Library seeks a
Humanities
Librarian to serve as a research instructor, one of the Library’s
subject
specialists for humanities, and as a liaison to academic departments and
materials selector in some of those disciplines. This Librarian will
provide
instruction in research and the use of library resources in a variety of
settings. S/he will demonstrate a history of effective classroom
teaching; a
commitment to undergraduate education; and a strong record of
collaborating with
faculty on assignments, course design, and pedagogical strategies. S/he
will
maintain currency with emerging information technologies and trends in
scholarly
communication, anticipating and facilitating new approaches to
humanities
research in response to evolving patterns of publishing and information
dissemination. The Humanities Librarian serves as coordinator for the
development and enhancement of reference pages within the Library’s
website.
S/he also participates in general reference services, guiding library
patrons in
identifying, retrieving and evaluating information in all formats and
all
humanities and social sciences disciplines. Full-time, with some
evenings and
weekends.

Minimum qualifications: Master’s
degree
from a program accredited by the American Library Association or foreign
equivalent required. Three years professional experience in an academic
or
research library or equivalent, in reference, collection development
and/or user
education required, or significant teaching experience in an academic
setting.
Must have a strong academic background or experience in the humanities,
with a
subject Master’s degree preferred; reading knowledge of at least one
foreign
language required. Demonstrated ability to teach and a commitment to
participate
in undergraduate education required. Strong communication skills
required. The
successful candidate must be willing to tackle challenges in an academic
library
with energy and enthusiasm, showing patience, tact, and good humor in
the face
of the demands of public service. S/he is expected to contribute to
library
initiatives that further the College’s commitment to diversity and
inclusion.

Duties
* Responsible for planning, coordinating, managing the ongoing activities and operations of Information Architecture Division for the National Defense University Library including acquisitions, cataloging, serials, database maintenance, digitization and technical services-related online system management.
* Planning, directing and reviewing the operations of Automation and Technical Services which requires advance knowledge of the theories and techniques employed in the operation of a large automated academic/research library utilizing international information/bibliographic networks and substantial knowledge of social and military sciences.
* Providing leadership in the identification and deployment of the latest digital access methods and in the creation an architecture of access points to scholarly resources in all formats needed by the university community.
* Maintaining and developing the library's computer systems using a broad range of software and hardware technologies. This entails working collaboratively with the library staff and faculty, the CIO organization , and members of the university faculty to envision and implement appropriate electronic products and services.
* Utilizes an advance knowledge of management techniques in order to develop innovative approaches to budgeting, recruiting and training a highly specialized changing workforce in a era of expanding services, limited resources and rapid change.
* Makes recommendations designed to ensure that program plans are consistent with continuing requirements changes of university staff, faculty, agencies and activities.

Reminder...deadline May 1st
SC Political Collections at the University of SC in Columbia
offers a summer internship with a stipend of $2,250 to be
awarded to a qualified graduate student enrolled in an
archival education program outside of South Carolina. Intern
projects require at least 135 hours and will vary depending
on current SCPC needs and interests of the intern. In a
typical internship, a student will arrange and describe a
small collection or a series within a major collection and
analyze preservation needs. The student might also help with digitization, oral history, and the creation of exhibits and educational resources.
SCPC is a nationally recognized repository collecting the
papers of individuals and organizations impacting on
government, politics and society, chiefly in the post-WWII
