Auburn University, a land-grant institution with an enrollment of more than 
24,000 students, invites applications for a twelve-month tenure-track position 
as Education Librarian.  The Auburn University Libraries belong to the 
Association of Research Libraries, house a collection of more than three million 
volumes, and operate with a current materials budget of $5.8 million.

Auburn is a small, friendly university town located on the beautiful plains of 
eastern Alabama, about 50 miles east of Montgomery, Alabama's capital, and 
115 miles southwest of Atlanta, Georgia. Other nearby cities are Birmingham, 
Alabama (110 miles northwest) and Columbus, Georgia (35 miles east). 

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Auburn University Libraries seek a knowledgeable 
and enthusiastic reference librarian to provide general and subject reference 
assistance, to serve as liaison and provide outreach to faculty, graduate and 
undergraduate students in the Auburn University College of Education, to 
participate in and develop specialized subject and information literacy 
instruction for education majors and graduate students, to participate in the 
Auburn University Libraries' general instruction program for undergraduates, to 
engage in collection development and management in education, and to 
participate (in collaboration with other library and university departments) in 
digitization projects.  Duties include reference, liaison, consultation, and 
instruction for faculty, staff and students; some night and weekend reference 
desk coverage required.  Position reports to the Associate Dean for Public 
Services/Head of Reference and Instruction Services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  An ALA-accredited MLS; a strong academic or 
employment background that includes some area of education or other social 
sciences field; professional reference and instruction experience; strong and 
effective interpersonal, communication, and computer skills; demonstrated 
ability to teach; commitment to excellence; adaptability, flexibility, and ability 
to contribute collegially and productively in a team environment; and ability to 
adapt emerging technologies to enhance user services in a collaborative, 
busy, and changing public services unit.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with specialized reference, instruction 
and liaison for collection development and management in education or other 
social sciences field; advanced degree in education or other social sciences 
discipline; and a record of scholarly, professional, and research activity. 

SALARY/BENEFITS:  Minimum salary $44,720 for a Librarian II, higher with 
experience or appointment as a Librarian III.  Rank will be commensurate with 
experience/qualifications.  Twelve-month tenure-track position.  Benefits 
include 20 days vacation leave/12 days sick leave per year; participation in 
State Teachers’ Retirement System (mandatory); other additional voluntary 
retirement plans available; health/life/disability insurance.
