All, The annual Clear Creek canoeing and camping trip is coming up fast. At tomorrows meeting, I'll be doing a demo on what to bring and how to pack. Please come to the meeting if you're planning on going and need to sign up. The trip announcement and packing list follows: Clear Creek Overnighters Trip When: April 2, 3 & 4 Start: Clear Creek near Clarkrange TN End: Barnett Bridge near Wartburg TN (about 28 miles) Cost: This is an official trip. No cost for gear rental for club members. Preregistration is Mandatory. Trip Leader: Randy Bigbee 567-7294 E-Mail: [log in to unmask] This is a three day canoe trip with two nights of camping on the river. From the put-in on Hwy 127 near Clarkrange there are 20 miles of uninterrupted forest until the next bridge. No houses, no road, no people; just wilderness, clear water, wildlife, and some incredible scenery. Rightfully so, the entire run is designated as a Nation Wild and Scenic river. It is best know for its rockhouses. For one short section, the entire creek cuts under a deep over hanging ledge. Expect to see turkey, deer, beaver, and the occasional river otter. The whitewater on this trip is rated as class II with one class III+ on the last day. There will be places that require portaging due to log jams, rock jumbles and downed trees in the river. With boats full of camping gear this will be physically demanding, so PACK LIGHT! Don't bring anything you wouldn't take on a backpacking trip. Leave the lounge chairs, canned goods, hound dogs and beer coolers at home. Proper preparation for this trip is critical. Each person will be responsible for carrying their own gear in their own boat and for bringing the necessary food, clothing and camping gear for a three-day trip. You and your gear will get wet. This is not a big deal as long as you're prepared. I'll do a demo on how to pack and what to bring at the March 24th meeting. Plan on spending 3 or more hours packing the night before the trip. A suggested packing list is on the back of this sheet.
