Parents Association Member Benefit Spotlight

Parents Association Online Chat

The Parents Association will be hosting an online chat for students and parents with the Office of Career Services on Tuesday, March 30, from 6:00-7:30 PM. Parents, you and your student can sign on to this chat to learn more about the opportunities available to students through Career Services. Information on job and internship searches, resources, and workshops, will also be available. You may access the chat from the News & Announcements section of the Undergraduate Admissions webpage at http://admissions.utk.edu. Information will be posted as the chat approaches. Online Chats are just one of the many innovative benefits that accompany your Parents Association membership.

Important Information for Students

Training Future Leaders in the Civility of Governance

This workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 30 at 6:30 PM in the Baker Center. A partnership between the Student Government Association (SGA) Government Affairs Committee and the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, the workshop will focus on helping students to learn the process of bi-partisan dialogue. Click here for more information.

SGA Campaigns in Full Swing on Campus

Voting for the Student Government Association elections begins today, Wednesday, March 24 and runs through tomorrow, Thursday, March 25 at 7:00 PM. Encourage your student to click here for information about SGA elections and to cast his or her vote.

Tutoring Options for Students

UT offers students many options for tutoring and academic assistance in select courses. While your student's professor should always be a first stop, there are additional resources available. The Student Success Center (SCC) has two locations on campus to offer students academic assistance, and houses many important resources including the "Tutoring & Study Help" resource on their website. Also, many academic departments offer assistance centers such as: The Math Tutorial Center, the Physics Tutorial Center, the Chemistry Tutorial Center, the Language Resource Center, and the Writing Center. Major Illumination: Workshop for Undecided Students

On Tuesday, March 30, Career Services will present Major Illumination: Workshop for Undecided Students from 4:00-5:00 PM in Career Services, located at 100 Dunford Hall. First and second year students who are unsure of their major are welcome to attend this workshop to learn more about resources and next steps that can help with the decision-making process. Interested students are encouraged to RSVP by calling Career Services at (865) 974-5435. Click here for more information.

Women's Leadership Program Etiquette Dinner

The Women's Leadership Program, sponsored by the Office of Student Orientation and Leadership Development, is sponsoring an Etiquette Dinner from 6:00-7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 30, in the Stokely Hospitality Suite in the Haslam Business Building. The program is designed to help female students learn etiquette techniques prevalent to working women and women transitioning into their careers, and is limited to the first 50 registrants. Mary Mahoney, Assistant Director of Career Services will be facilitating the event. Interested students should click here to register. April 2 is Spring Recess, No Classes, University Offices Closed

On Friday, April 2, the University of Tennessee will be closed for Spring Recess. There will be no classes on April 2 and most offices will be closed. However, residence halls will remain open, and the UT Police Department will be functioning as normal during Spring Recess.

UT Undergraduates Launch Research Journal

Pursuit: The Journal of Undergraduate Research at the University of Tennessee, is the first publication of only undergraduate research at UT Knoxville, and one of a small number in the national university community. Print copies of the journal will be available during the Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement today, Wednesday, March 24, and Thursday, 25 inside the University Center. The online version will be available here. After March 25, copies also can be found in the Office of Research and the Chancellor's Honors Program office in Melrose Hall. HealthBeat 2010

The College of Nursing has teamed up with Student Health Service and the University of Tennessee Medical Center to bring the UT community "HealthBeat 2010," a free health fair for UT students, faculty, and staff. The fair will take place from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 31, in the University Center Ballroom. Several screenings and tests will be provided, and exhibition booths will also be set up with representatives from various health care organizations and UT departments giving counsel and handing out information on a variety of health-related topics. "Capitalism and the High Liberal Tradition" Lecture

Samuel Freeman, the Avalon Professor in the Humanities and Professor of Philosophy and Law at the University of Pennsylvania, will present a lecture entitled "Capitalism and the High Liberal Tradition" on Friday, March 26, at 3:30 PM in the Shiloh Room in the University Center. His talk is part of the Rawlsian Liberalism in Context(s) Series: Moral, Political, and Legal Philosophy and is co-sponsored by the School of Law and the Department of Political Science.
