Parents Association Member Benefit Spotlight

TENNESSEE Family Magazine

Three times annually, all Parents Association members receive the TENNESSEE Family Magazine, a publication developed to provide information to parents of students at the University of Tennessee. It features articles highlighting inspirational UT professors, outstanding UT students, and various student organizations and activities, as well as offering information on campus safety, upcoming events, student scholarships, and many other aspects of life at UT. TENNESSEE Family is sent via mail to all members' mailing addresses. The Spring 2010 edition of the magazine is hot off the press and set to hit your mailbox soon!

Spring Family Weekend Wrap-Up

Spring Family Weekend

Thanks to the more than 140 families that attended Spring Family Weekend! Brunch with Provost, the UT Vols vs. Kentucky Wildcats basketball game, Family Weekend Dinner at Calhoun's on the River, and the UT Lady Vols vs. Ole Miss Lady Rebels basketball games were among the weekend's highlights! Spring Family Weekend participants should have received an email yesterday with a link to the Spring Family Weekend Evaluation; if you have not done so, please fill out the short evaluation - your feedback is valuable in planning future Family Weekend events.

Also, the Parents Council's "Shoot for the Goal" fundraising campaign benefiting the Parents and Families Fund raised $1190 for student scholarships and parent and student programming. Thank you to all the participants who donated. We had so much fun at Spring Family Weekend, that we can't wait for the 8th annual Fall Family Weekend, September 24-26. Details about Fall Family Weekend will be continually updated on the Parents Association website at http://parents.utk.edu.

Important Information for Students

First Session Courses End, Second Session Courses Begin

Each semester of classes (fall, spring, and summer) contains two sessions in which many shorter courses are offered. For the 2010 spring semester, first session courses end today, Wednesday, March 3, and second session courses begin Thursday, March 4. Monday, March 8 is the last day for students to add, change the grading option, or drop a second session course without a "W".

Tuesday, March 16 is the last day for students to drop full semester courses with a "W". Most courses offered at the University are full semester courses. A "W" will reflect a withdrawal of a course on a student's official academic transcript, but will not affect a student's GPA.

Spring Break, March 8-12

Spring Break will be March 8-12, 2010. No classes will be held during Spring Break, and campus residence halls will close at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 6 and will reopen at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 14. Also, the last day for Campus Dining meal plans before Spring Break is Friday, February 5; meal plan will resume on Monday, February 15. The university will be open during spring break with campus offices operating on a normal schedule.
