Egyptian Culture Night

The International House presents Egyptian Culture Night tonight, Wednesday, March 17, as part of Middle Eastern Week. Encourage your student to visit the I-House to experience the rich Egyptian Culture. Participants will learn more about the ancient Egyptian history and enjoy the Egyptian style hand drumming performance, get some Egyptian henna art, learn more about the Egyptian sense of humor, and enjoy delightful Egyptian food. The cost is $6; tickets will go on sale at 6:00 PM and the event will start at 6:30 PM. Click here for more information.

Job Search Strategies Workshop

Encourage your student to attend the Job Search Strategies Workshop on Thursday, March 18, from 4:00-5:00 PM in the Career Services classroom located in Dunford Hall. This workshop will teach students, step by step, how to conduct an effective job search. This workshop emphasizes a comprehensive approach to job searching, the importance of being focused, where to find jobs, the hidden market, networking, and what the Career Services Office can do for your student. Great Decisions Program Presented by Ready for the World

The Great Decisions Program, coordinated by the Center for International Education and funded by the Ready for the World initiative, will bring five speakers from around the country to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville this semester to address our nation's most pressing foreign policy issues. The next lecture, entitled "Global Crime," will take place on Tuesday, March 23, at 7:00 PM in the Great Room of the International House and will feature Edward Miguel, professor of economics and director of the Center of Evaluation for Global Action at the University of California, Berkeley. Women's Leadership Program Leadership Workshop Series

The Office of Student Orientation and Leadership Development is excited to announce the "Women at Work" Leadership Workshop Series as part of the Women's Leadership Program. Free and open to all students and staff, these workshops will highlight various topics surrounding women and leadership in the work setting. The next workshop is entitled Women and Salary Negotiation and will be presented by Suzette Stiles on Wednesday, March 24, at 4:00 PM in the Career Services Classroom in Dunford Hall. Understanding the Recession: Banks, Regulations, Markets and the Economic Outlook

Joe Carcello, from the Department of Accounting and Information Management; Joan Heminway, from UT College of Law; and Matt Murray, from UT's Center for Business and Economic Research will present a panel session and discussion on "Understanding the Recession: Banks, Regulations, Markets, and the Economic Outlook" on Wednesday, March 24, at 6:30 PM in the Toyota Auditorium in the Howard Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy. From regulatory issues, self interest and the markets, to bank regulations, members of the UT faculty, each of whom has been dealing with different aspects of the economic downturn, will offer perspectives of the economic crisis by providing an overview of the nature and depth of the downturn and the economic outlook for the state and nation. 171 UT Students Receive Scholarships for Study Abroad

171 UT students have received $500 study-abroad scholarships funded by the study abroad fee collected from undergraduate students. The $10-per-year fee, proposed by the Student Government Association and approved by the Board of Trustees, went into effect in fall 2008. The scholarships were awarded based on a combination of financial need and academic merit. While some of the students used their scholarships for study-abroad experiences during spring break, others will study abroad during mini-term and summer. UT offers programs in 54 countries on six continents that range in length from three weeks to an academic year. Click here for more information.

Holi Show: "Festival of Lights"

The Cultural Attractions Committee and the Indian American Association celebrate a significant holiday recognized in India. Holi means festival of colors, which will be well represented in the spirit of the dancers for this unique event. The event will take place on Saturday, March 20, at 6:30 PM in Cox Auditorium inside the Alumni Memorial Building. The cost is $5 for UT students and $10 for members of the community. Blogs, Social Media and Political InCivility

The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy in partnership with Student Government Association Government Affairs committee present Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit and UT professor Dr. Mike Fitzgerald on Tuesday, March 23, at 7:00 PM in the Baker Center's Toyota Auditorium. This event will explore the role of blogs and social media as relates to civility in the political process. Click here for more information. Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management Fundraiser

Come support UT and celebrate the resources and creativity of the region at the Appalachian Spring Dinner and Auction! Receive a unique culinary experience inspired by five unique, local chefs and participate in the exciting auction coordinated by Hotel, Restaurant and Hospitality students. The fundraiser will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Saturday March 27, at 6:00 PM.
