Parents Association Member Benefit Spotlight

Parent Resource Center

With the aim of helping you to find the resources you need when you need them, the Parent Resource Center section of the Parents Association website provides access to information such as: Campus Calendars & Links, Encourage Your Student, The Volunteer Vocabulary (Common terms used by UT students), Student Illness/Emergency Information, Suggested Reading Options for Parents, Parent Tips, Hilltopics (Official UTK Student Handbook), Visiting UT, and more. Click here to see all the information that is just a mouse click away by taking a few minutes to explore the Parent Resource Center.

Parents Association Online Parent AND Student Chat

Join staff from the Parents Association and Career Services to participate in an online chat to learn more about the opportunities available to students through Career Services. The chat will take place on Tuesday, March 30 from 6:00-7:30 PM. You (and your student) may access the chat from the News & Announcements section of the Undergraduate Admissions webpage at http://admissions.utk.edu. Information will be posted as the chat approaches. This chat will give you and your student an opportunity to learn more, and ask questions about the services offered through Career Services on campus.

Important Information for Students

Campus Residence Halls Open Sunday, 1:00 PM

If your student resides in a residence hall on campus and is returning from Spring Break, the residence halls will re-open at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 14.

Important Registration Deadline Approaching

Tuesday, March 16, is the deadline for students to drop full term courses with a "W". A "W" will reflect a withdrawal of a course on a student's official academic transcript, but will not affect a student's GPA.

sophoMORE Seminar: Life in the Real World: Major Issues

Is your student finishing his or her sophomore year and rethinking the choice of his or her original major and not quite sure what to switch to or how to efficiently move forward? If so, encourage him or her to attend the Life in the Real World: Major Issues sophoMORE seminar on Tuesday, March 16, at 7:00 PM in the University Center Crest Room. This seminar will provide your student the opportunity to talk to representatives from the Student Success Center, various academic advising offices, and Career Services about the transition. Neyland Stadium Renovation to Close Bus Transfer Facility, Part of Fulmer Way

UT closed the university's bus transfer facility and an additional portion of Phillip Fulmer Way on Monday, March 8, the first day of Spring Break, to accommodate the current phase of renovations to Neyland Stadium. The transfer station and Phillip Fulmer Way will reopen prior to the start of the fall semester. Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) buses and campus shuttles running "The T" routes will be detoured to new pick-up and drop-off locations during the closure on the agriculture campus, on Joe Johnson Drive in front of the Pendergrass Library near Service Drive, and on Volunteer Boulevard just west of Circle Park Drive. Both locations will provide connections to The T: East-West. The Circle Park location also will provide connections to The T: North-South. Click here for more information on the closures.

Great Decisions Program Presented by Ready for the World

The Great Decisions Program, coordinated by the Center for International Education and funded by the Ready for the World initiative, will bring five speakers from around the country to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville this semester to address our nation's most pressing foreign policy issues. The next lecture, entitled "Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution," will take place on Tuesday, March 16, at 7:00 PM in the Great Room of the International House and will feature John Marks, president and founder of Search for Common Ground, Washington, D.C. 18th Annual "Love Your Libraries" Fun Run

Join other library supporters at the 18th annual "Love Your Libraries" Fun Run, hosted by the University of Tennessee Graduate Student Senate. The 5K race and fun walk will take place Saturday, March 20. Registration is from 6:45-7:45 AM in Circle Park on the UT campus, and the race begins at 8:00 AM. Proceeds benefit the University of Tennessee Libraries.

The Graduate Student Senate hosted its first race to benefit the UT Libraries in 1992. Proceeds from the race assist the libraries in purchasing much-needed electronic resources, books, equipment, and other items critical for student success at the University of Tennessee. Pre-registrations must be postmarked by March 13. Click here for more information.

Student Financial Aid Information

April 1, 2010 is the priority date for students to submit requests for summer financial aid. If your student is planning to attend summer school in 2010, encourage him or her to complete the 2010 Summer Financial Aid Request by April 1. Click here to access the Summer Financial Aid Request Form.
