CoP lunchYour Instructional Technology Community of Practice (CoP) is off to a terrific start! At the January Brown Bag Lunch, 18 participants shared their experiences and interests in a wide range of teaching and learning strategies including: learning objects, online learning, virtual worlds, creative uses of course management systems, and assessment via e-Portfolios & online testing.

Bring your lunch and join OIT Faculty Fellows Trena Paulus and Terri Combs-Orme on Wednesday, February 24 from 12:15-1:15 in Hoskins 191 for another interesting conversation.

Are You a Graduate Teaching Assistant?
Submit a Proposal

OIT sponsors the GTA@IT Grant Program to encourage Graduate Teaching Assistants to incorporate technology into their teaching. In this program, participants meet with OIT graduate assistants and staff to accomplish their goals for technology use. Each Fall and Spring semester, Graduate Teaching Associates and Assistants (GTAs) with sole responsibility for teaching a course are invited to submit a proposal for the GTA@IT grant.

GTA with mobile handheld technologyIn addition to mentoring, grant recipients receive $500 to purchase software, attend a professional conference, prepare a professional presentation or publication about integrating technology into a course, or use as a stipend. GTA@IT Spring 2010 grant proposals, for courses taught in Summer or Fall 2010, are due Friday, February 19, 2010 by 5 p.m. For the GTA@IT Spring 2010 Calls for Proposals, visit http://itc.utk.edu/services/gta/.

More Technology Training for You & Your Students
We have a variety of workshops scheduled in February from productivity tools such as Access, Excel, and Word, to creative design with Flash and Photoshop, and Website design using HTML and Dreamweaver. Many classes are offered in 3-4 session sequences to allow for more in-depth exposure to a particular tool. If time is limited, check out the Quick Classes. Excel and Photoshop are offered this month.

A variety of research workshops are available as well. Topics include Maple, the Newton Cluster, R Basics, SPSS Basics, SPSS Data Analysis, SPSS Survey Design, and WordStat Basics.

Training labSharePoint continues to grow in popularity. Introductory sessions are offered every week.

Course Capture in Hoskins 110
If you need to webcast one or more class sessions, or capture sessions for use later, the course capture system in Hoskins 110 is just what you need! In addition to real-time webcasting and time shifting of class sessions, this technology can be used to create supplemental presentations, to preserve presentations by guest lecturers, and for advance recording of review sessions prior to exams.

MediasitePlease note that logistical and technical considerations require that this service be scheduled no less than 24 hours in advance, and may not be available at certain times. In addition, this facility cannot be reserved as a class venue on a semester-long basis, only for specific, individual sessions scheduled in advance.
