Save the Date: Second CoP Lunch
Planned for February
Your Instructional Technology Community of Practice (CoP) is off to a
terrific start! At the January Brown Bag Lunch, 18 participants shared
their experiences and interests in a wide range of teaching and
learning strategies including: learning objects, online learning,
virtual worlds, creative uses of course management systems, and
assessment via e-Portfolios & online testing.

Bring your lunch and join OIT Faculty Fellows Trena Paulus and Terri
Combs-Orme on Wednesday, February 24 from 12:15-1:15 in Hoskins 191
for another interesting conversation.

For more information, contact Gina Phipps at [log in to unmask] or

Are You a Graduate Teaching Assistant?
Submit a Proposal
OIT sponsors the GTA@IT Grant Program to encourage Graduate Teaching
Assistants to incorporate technology into their teaching. In this
program, participants meet with OIT graduate assistants and staff to
accomplish their goals for technology use. Each Fall and Spring
semester, Graduate Teaching Associates and Assistants (GTAs) with sole
responsibility for teaching a course are invited to submit a proposal
for the GTA@IT grant.

In addition to mentoring, grant recipients receive $500 to purchase
software, attend a professional conference, prepare a professional
presentation or publication about integrating technology into a
course, or use as a stipend. GTA@IT Spring 2010 grant proposals, for
courses taught in Summer or Fall 2010, are due Friday, February 19,
2010 by 5 p.m. For the GTA@IT Spring 2010 Calls for Proposals, visit http://itc.utk.edu/services/gta/
.

More Technology Training for You & Your Students
We have a variety of workshops scheduled in February from productivity
tools such as Access, Excel, and Word, to creative design with Flash
and Photoshop, and Website design using HTML and Dreamweaver. Many
classes are offered in 3-4 session sequences to allow for more in-
depth exposure to a particular tool. If time is limited, check out the
Quick Classes. Excel and Photoshop are offered this month.

A variety of research workshops are available as well. Topics include
Maple, the Newton Cluster, R Basics, SPSS Basics, SPSS Data Analysis,
SPSS Survey Design, and WordStat Basics.

SharePoint continues to grow in popularity. Introductory sessions are
offered every week.

Registration is required for all workshops. To view descriptions and
register for sessions visit the OIT Training page. If you have
questions or need help with registration for any of the workshops
listed above, contact the HelpDesk at http://help.utk.edu or 974-9900.

Course Capture in Hoskins 110
If you need to webcast one or more class sessions, or capture sessions
for use later, the course capture system in Hoskins 110 is just what
you need! In addition to real-time webcasting and time shifting of
class sessions, this technology can be used to create supplemental
presentations, to preserve presentations by guest lecturers, and for
advance recording of review sessions prior to exams.

Please note that logistical and technical considerations require that
this service be scheduled no less than 24 hours in advance, and may
not be available at certain times. In addition, this facility cannot
be reserved as a class venue on a semester-long basis, only for
specific, individual sessions scheduled in advance.

For more information or to schedule a session,
please call the OIT HelpDesk at 974-9900.
