Dear Geography Students (Both Majors and non-Majors) and Faculty:
The Iota Theta Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, an international honor society in geography, is seeking new members this Spring 2010 semester. Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) is an accredited honor society with the Association of College Honors Societies, which gives GTU members access to pay increases in government jobs. Additionally, GTU members have access to numerous scholarships, presentation, and publication opportunities that put them ahead of other geography students in academia and the job market. Members pay a one-time initiation fee of $40.00, which gives them access to many of the benefits of the Society for life. Additionally, members may choose to join the alumni chapter, Omega Omega, after graduation, to continue to receive the Geographical Bulletin, GTU’s scholarly publication.
Because GTU is an honor society, there are some restrictions to membership. Qualified applicants need not be geography majors, but they must have completed (or will complete by the end of the Spring 2010 semester) 9 credits in geography with a 3.3 GPA or better. Qualified applicants will also have an overall GPA of 3.3 or better and have completed at least three semesters of college coursework.
Majors and non-majors, both undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty, are invited to join the Iota Theta Chapter here at University of Tennessee. If you are interested, please pick up an applicant packet from the envelopes on the door of 408 Burchfiel Geography Building or Dr. Rehder’s office door (313 Burchfiel Geography Building).
