--- Haiti Relief -- Numerous UT students, faculty and staff are raising money for humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti after last week's devastating earthquake: 

Red Cross Club fundraiser, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the UC.

Delta Sigma Theta sorority fundraiser, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, on the Pedestrian Mall.

--- Get InVOLved for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service -- Join more than 150 UT Knoxville students this Saturday, Jan. 23, to pitch in around the community and honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., with the campus' annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. UT students are invited to participate in the TeamVOLS event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will run from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Register online by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to participants, and a limited number of T-shirts will be available. At 9 a.m., students will be bused to service projects throughout Knoxville, including Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries, Ijams Nature Center, Habitat for Humanity, the Florence Crittenden Agency, East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Love Kitchen, Ronald McDonald House and others. Get Involved

--- Interested in performing arts or learning about the entertainment industry? Want to bring culturally relevant people to campus? Apply to the Cultural Attractions Committee. Applications can be found at http://cpc.utk.edu/Committees/cac/ or on the bulletin board in the Student Activities Office (305 UC). Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 5, printed in the Student Activities Office or sent electronically to [log in to unmask] The committee will then contact the applicant about an interview if desired.

--- The Student Alumni Associates (SAA) is a campus group dedicated to enriching the relationship between UT students and alumni. This month is SAA's annual membership drive. Interest meetings will be held Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 at the Tyson Alumni House (across from the library). Applications are also available at the Tyson House and are due by noon Jan. 29, where applicants can sign up for an interview time.

--- Did you resolve to read more in 2010? If so, here are three books you might want to add to your list: "Justice as Fairness" by John Rawls, "Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water" by Maude Barlow, and "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men" by James Agee and Walker Evans. These books will be featured in several upcoming events at UT Knoxville and in the Knoxville community. The first discussion session, on Rawls' "Justice as Fairness," begins at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in the Toyota Auditorium of the Baker Center.

--- Are you looking for a way to get more involved on campus? Are you proud of UT and want to share your love of UT with others? The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is currently accepting applications for the Ambassador Scholars Program for the 2010-2011 school year. The Ambassador Scholars Program is a group of dedicated students who serve as tour guides for our campus, assist with recruiting programs, and may also be asked to assist other groups and departments with their recruitment activities. Ambassadors are paid $7.25 per hour and are required to work only 60 hours each semester. If you are interested in learning more about these programs, come to the information session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Hodges Library Auditorium. --- The Campus Entertainment Board is inviting students to join. If you would like to be involved in a diverse and involved group of students who plan and execute all kinds of campus events and entertainment, apply today! Applications can be found at http://cpc.utk.edu. Applications are due at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, in the Student Activities Office.

--- The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy is seeking high-achieving, rising juniors and seniors interested in public policy, politics, government and public service. Exceptional rising sophomores will be considered on a case by case basis with a very strong recommendation from a UT faculty member. 

Baker Scholars attend Baker Center events throughout the year and assist with promotion of these events to peers and faculty. The scholars also complete a project, prepare an end-of-the-year summary of the project and participate in the end-of-the-year Baker Scholar Symposium and celebration dinner.

All applications are due at the Baker Center, 1640 Cumberland Ave., by 5 p.m. Feb. 1. Applications are available on the Baker Center Web site.

All new applicants must be enrolled at UT Knoxville for at least a full academic year (fall 2010 to spring 2011) and not enrolled in semester abroad, to be considered for this program. Successful applicants typically have a GPA of 3.35 or above.

This is a one-year appointment subject to renewal annually. The number of Baker Scholars is limited; selection is a competitive process. Baker Scholars will be chosen based on their application, academic history, UT faculty appraisal and an interview with the selection committee.

Interviews with finalists will be held between Feb. 17 and March 4.
