Union

Position
Description:
This
position is responsible for enhancing library services and access to academic
resources through extensive outreach, instruction and reference activities. The
successful candidate will work collaboratively to build strong faculty
relationships and serves as an ambassador from the library to the Union
University community of library users.
Essential
job functions include:
Develop
and implement an outreach plan including the coordination of marketing and
outreach efforts, developing publications, organizing events, displays,
exhibits, blog postings, social networking and liaison relationships.
Initiate and coordinate library outreach
services that are focused on engaging and supporting students and faculty.
As part of the Public Services team,
participate in both reference and teaching responsibilities.
Create instructional and information
materials such as online tutorials, surveys and guides.
Work with Library Director and other
coworkers to strategically and successfully reach target groups.
Regularly assess the effectiveness of
outreach efforts using both formal and informal measurement techniques.
Contribute to the planning, development and
provision of instruction and reference services.
Focus on emerging technologies and
resources. Use library staff meetings and other venues to routinely inform
coworkers regarding emerging technologies and resources.
Serve as a librarian liaison to assigned
university departments.
Assist Library Director and other campus
leaders with library-related community outreach efforts.
Demonstrate ability to work independently as
well as collaboratively in a complex, changing environment.
Responsible for ongoing professional
development such as continuing education, publishing, etc.
Qualifications:
An
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science with
two years of professional library work experience is required. The
candidate must possess excellent written communication and presentation skills,
as well as demonstrate familiarity with traditional in-library encounters and
creative outreach methods, such as residence hall visits, social networking forums
and faculty office calls. The individual must be enthusiastic for and have a
commitment to customer service, as well as an energetic and motivated team
orientation. A strong public service focus with an ability to take initiative
and carry out projects to completion, coupled with an ability to
work both independently and on a team, is important. The ability to both
learn and promote new technology for outreach and teaching is also necessary.
Preference
will be given to individuals with previous library instruction experience and
successful professional work experience including instruction, reference and/or
outreach duties in an academic library setting. Formal coursework or work
experience in public speaking, website design and marketing/advertising with
writing and editing skills across a variety of formats (websites, handouts,
brochures, podcasts) is preferred. A demonstrated ability in
creating interactive online experiences and an ability to manage complex
projects is also desired.

This
is a full-time position. Full-time faculty receive a salary and
compensation package that includes health care insurance and dental/vision
insurance. Life insurance and disability insurance are also
available. Union offers faculty members a choice between two retirement
