CATALOGING/METADATA LIBRARIAN: The University of Scranton seeks a=20
Cataloging/Metadata Librarian who is responsible for maintaining the=20
library=92s online catalog and supervising 2 full-time copy catalogers. =20
Responsibilities include: cataloging materials in all subjects, formats=20
and languages; exploring and integrating appropriate emerging technologies=20
into cataloging practices; managing authority control and maintaining=20
close relationships with all library functions including: circulation,=20
reference, acquisitions, special collections and systems. Takes part in=20
the planning, implementation and configuration of the ILS as it pertains=20
to cataloging functions and public display. Participates in the library=92s=
=20
information literacy instruction program.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS. Experience includes two years=20
cataloging experience, including non-book cataloging; experience with an=20
integrated library system; experience with using MODS/METS (Metadata=20
Object Description Scheme/Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard)=20
and/or applying Western States Best Practices. Preferred experience=20
includes familiarity with the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system;=20
working knowledge of at least one European language, and familiarity with=20
RDA and FRBR sufficient to guide staff in transitioning to these new=20
standards.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Working knowledge of=20
OCLC and WorldCat. Familiarity with MARC format and cataloging rules=20
including: AACR2, LCSH, LCCS, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic=20
holdings and authority control. Familiarity with emerging trends in=20
library systems and services. Skill in using computer applications=20
including spreadsheets, databases , and word processing applications in a=20
Windows environment. Strong collegial interpersonal, oral and written=20
communication skills with an interest in professional development. Visual=20
acuity and ability to physically manage inventory and shelf reading=20
projects. The successful candidate must be detailed oriented and able to=20
work both independently and collaboratively.=20

Twelve-month faculty appointment tenure track. Hours: Monday=97Friday,=20
8:30 a.m. =96 4:30 p.m. A second masters=92 degree in a subject is required=
=20
for tenure. Expected start date is June 1, 2010.
