Head of Reference and Instructional Services Rowland Medical Library of the University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor librarian to head Reference and Instructional Services. Rowland Library serves the schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, health related professions and graduate studies in the health sciences. Responsibilities: In coordination with Director and Associate Director, establish goals and objectives for reference department. In conjunction with library leadership team, help define and design new library roles, services, and resources for UMMC community. Plan, coordinate, and assess new and on-going instruction and reference services. Oversee library orientation and courses for all schools in the medical center. Supervise developing and preparing instructional materials in print and electronic format. Manage daily activities of reference department. Schedule, coordinate, and provide reference desk services. Coordinate with Acquisitions in selecting print and electronic reference materials. Evaluate and implement departmental policies. Prepare monthly statistical and annual reports. Supervise 3 full time professional librarians. This is a 12 month tenure tract faculty appointment. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. Required Qualities: ALA-accredited MLS and strong public service orientation. Minimum of 5 years of professional library experience required with 3 years in health sciences or public service preferred. Preferred Qualities: Supervisory experience in an academic setting. Recent experience in library instruction with demonstrated teaching skills in both classroom and electronic environments. Able to manage multiple priorities and meet goals. Ability to work well in a team environment with students, faculty and staff. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Skills and experience in Web design. Ability to meet academic promotion and tenure requirements. Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
