SALARY: $30,349--$34,397.00 /Year

THE POSITION:
Performs specialized and responsible technical work involved in the acquisition of school library media material. Performs related work as required.  There may be some walking, standing, bending, and lifting objects that weigh 20-50 lbs.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

    * Creates lists for selectors; uploads completed lists into ILS; reviews for duplication, branch locations, fund code and format accuracy and places orders with vendors.
    * Tracks expenditures and standing order acquisitions; pays invoices and cancels orders as determined by Collection Development Manager.
    * Collects and reports financial data to Administration on a weekly basis; records invoices within 30 days in order for payment to be generated within 60 days of receipt of invoice.
    * Creates weeding lists and statistical reports per schedule and in response to specific requests on an ongoing basis.
    * Runs ILS reports on all standing orders and continuations
    * Resolves shipping/vendor/order/receiving errors as they may occur
    * Prepares weekly School Collection Development budget report
    * Creates and maintains fund codes for appropriated money
    * Records invoice amounts in ILS, assigning fund information and approving for Metro Finance for payment on a daily basis
    * Prepares quarterly statistical reports on orders and collections
    * Reconciles monthly statements from vendors
    * Processes cancellations and orders cancelled material from other suppliers
    * Responsible for use of a Metro purchasing credit card
    * Assists with moving materials between locations as well as adding and withdrawing preview and gift materials from the system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 High School Diploma plus four (4) years of applications, financial and/or technical related experience.  ***  Substitution of up to 2 years of college for 2 years of the required 4 years of applications, financial and/or technical  experience will be allowed. ***

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

    * Experience and proficiency in MS Word and Excel applications.
    * Experience using Innovative Interfaces (III) ILS system or The Library Corporation system.

THE POSITION:
Provides leadership and expertise in evaluating and selecting information resources in all formats; in bringing awareness of information issues into collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and others.  Must have the ability to analyze school curriculum requirements and identify and develop collections that meet those requirements.  Ability to communicate effectively with school and library administrators to align library needs and instructional goals, to plan appropriate actions, and follow up with their implementation.

There may be some walking, standing, bending, lifting objects that weigh 20-50 lbs.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

·         Reviews and selects library material in all formats 
Adheres to budgetary restrictions and prepares budget reports·       
Meets with sales vendors and reviews new products
·         Communicates with school library media specialists and administrators
·         Assists in the maintenance and weeding of library collections
·         Trains professional and paraprofessional staff on collection maintenance
·         Prepares bibliographies
·         Maintains affiliations with professional library organizations
·         Performs administrative duties as required
·         Reads reports and performs statistical analysis as required
·         Writes reports, letters, and memos
·         Attends meetings and participates on committees as required
·         May perform clerical and paraprofessional duties as assigned
·         Keeps abreast of new trends in collection development and acquisitions
·         Adheres to library Customer Service Guidelines
·         Assists with moving materials between locations as well as adding and withdrawing preview and gift materials from the system

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree  in Library Science from an accredited college or university, eligibility for Tennessee State Certification as a School Library Media Specialist, and 2 years of related professional experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

    * Previous professional experience in a high School setting
    * School library media experience
    * Background in instructional technology
    * Background in curriculum development
    * Knowledge of MS Word and Excel applications
