We have two vacancies in Digital Library Initiatives:

DIGITAL ACCESS GRADUATE ASSISTANT
Duties: The Digital Access Graduate Assistant will play an important role in facilitating access to the diverse digital collections managed by the Digital Library Center.  S/he will assist in the creation of various types of metadata and thereby will support access to and preservation of valuable digital resources.  S/he will also be expected to provide assistance to student workers with questions relating to production, technology and interpretation of guidelines.  S/he will also be asked to assist with the development of procedures, tools, and documentation based on individual project needs.

Required Qualifications:

    * Detail-oriented
    * Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
    * Familiarity with HTML or XML
    * Interest in technology

Preferred:

    * Graduate coursework in Information Sciences
    * Experience creating metadata
    * Knowledge of principles of information organization
    * Familiarity with issues related to the creation of digital collections
    * Experience with XSLT
    * Experience with XML editors (for instance, XMLSpy or Oxygen)

Term of appointment:

12-month appointments at 10 hours per a week (quarter time), August 1 – July 31.  Renewal for the following fiscal year is available pending satisfactory performance. 

Salary:

Annual stipend of $6,108 plus fee waiver for each term during the appointment period.


DIGITAL LIBRARY INITIATIVES STUDENT ASSISTANT
Duties: The student will create and edit digital images for Digital Library Initiatives. Additionally, the
student will create TEI-encoded markup for textual documents, as well as administrative and
descriptive records for digital objects. We are looking for a student who is detail-oriented, has
above average computer skills and an interest in learning new technologies. Preferred skills
include: knowledge of Photoshop, digitization, and metadata/cataloging experience.

Required Qualifications:

    * Detail-oriented
    * Ability to troubleshoot
    * Ability to work independently
    * Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred:

    * Experience with Adobe Photoshop
    * Digitization experience
    * Metadata/cataloging experience
    * Coursework in Information Sciences

Hours/Days of Employment: 10-20 hours per week. Available July 1, 2009. Pay $6.90 /hr.
