The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) seeks a Director of Special Collections and Reference Services. KHS is responsible for more than 500,000 historic documents, manuscripts, photos and maps. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing public access to these historical materials, both on-site and on-line. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing the necessary direction to a staff of 18 that acquire, care for and catalog the KHS collections. Areas of responsibility include the library, special collections, Kentucky Oral History Commission and collections imaging. Minimum Requirements are a Masters in Library Science, significant coursework or degree in history or related field, and a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience managing a public or research library with manuscript and other special collections. Additional experience in historical collections imaging preferred. Effective supervisory, interpersonal and organizational skills are essential. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to use web-based and other technologies in library and collections development and delivery. Desirable qualifications include a strong knowledge of American and Kentucky history. This is a permanent full-time position based in Frankfort KY. Occasional travel may be required.
