Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will build and maintain digital collections supporting the University's mission and curriculum. Responsibilities include working with librarians and the campus community to identify opportunities for digital collection to meet information needs; identifying, evaluating, and implementing appropriate software and hardware for digital collections; identifying and implementing appropriate metadata standards; writing and maintaining policies and procedures relating to digital collections; marketing digital collections to the campus community; serving on Library and University committees; assisting at the reference desk; and other duties as assigned. This position would also have the opportunity to assist with traditional collection development.

Education: ALA accredited MLS
Experience: Working experience with digital collections in a library setting.
Skills: Familiarity with issues and trends in digital collection management and related technologies; knowledge of metadata standards including MARC, LCSH, and emerging metadata standards; knowledge of digital capture standards; demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; flexibility in an environment of rapid change.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with integrated library systems; working experience with digital collection management systems; familiarity with intellectual property issues.

The University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus is accepting applications for Lecturer II or III, Library Manger/Director. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position. The position begins July 1, 2009.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,000 each semester.

Salary: Base salary range for the twelve-month faculty position is $50,000 to $53,000 for Lecturer II or III, depending on qualifications and experience. An excellent package of benefits is provided.

Summary of duties and responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Dean of Instruction, the Library Faculty and Manager/Director provides leadership for the development, assessment, administration and oversight of all library services, including, but not limited to: public and technical services (including all original cataloging and direct oversight of copy cataloging activities), facilities, equipment needs, library budget planning, collection development, library instruction and
faculty outreach, acquisitions, and computer operations. Supervises and evaluates full-time library staff and faculty. Represents the Valencia Campus Library on various campus and state committees.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or ALA-recognized international equivalent.
Five years academic library experience.
One year library management experience.
One year cataloging experience using LC classification.
Must be legally authorized to work in the USA.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
Demonstrated ability to lead in a collaborative environment and a commitment to shared decision-making.
An understanding of how the library is an integral part of learning in a liberal arts college consistent with the mission of UNM-Valencia Campus.
A record of service to the profession and evidence of ongoing scholarly achievement.
Knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly communication, pedagogy, and librarianship such as copyright, plagiarism, intellectual freedom, technology issues and assessment.
Evidence of strong commitment of service to students and others in the campus community.
Demonstrated ability to adopt & effectively use new technologies in areas such as personal computing, webpage design and/or Web2.0, and an enthusiastic understanding of issues related to library and educational technology such as library automation, university information systems, and/or course management systems.

Two or more years demonstrated experience in the following areas:
LC cataloging (preferably using III (Innovative Interfaces Inc.) and/or OCLC).
Interlibrary loan using OCLC.
Providing reference services and instruction using online databases, the Internet and traditional print resources.
Library management.
Effective supervision.

This project is subject to a bid approval to provide a temporary full-time cataloger to work onsite for approximately six months. Candidates must undergo a test for German language proficiency

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Catalog a retrospective backlog of books, artifacts and peripheral materials that are primarily in German.
* Experience providing both copy cataloging and original cataloging.
* Create accurate MARC records for each item in organization's onsite database.
* Apply indexing terms to the organization's in-house thesaurus.
* Provide weekly status reports to the Collection Manager and to the LAC Account Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Assistant Department Head, working with the Head Librarian of the Catal=

In detail, responsibilities will include:

* Performing original and complex cataloging and authority work for all =

* Leading or coordinating selected cataloging projects to be either outs=

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program. Expe=
rience cataloging in an academic or research library. A minimum of three ye=
ars experience cataloging in an online environment. Demonstrated knowledge =
of cataloging standards, practices, and products, including but not limited=
to LC classification, LCSH, MARC formats, AACR2, LCRIs. Experience with O=
CLC Connexion and integrated library systems. Demonstrated experience catal=
oging a variety of materials or formats (monographs, serials, videos/DVDs, =
electronic, etc.). Experience directing and assessing the work of others in=
a supervisory role. Experience with staff training, including preparing h=
andouts or other necessary documentation. Excellent interpersonal skills in=
cluding oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of one or more Western Europea=
n languages. Minimum of three years supervisory experience. Experience wit=
h a national cooperative cataloging program such as PCC (NACO, BIBCO, CONSE=
R or SACO). Experience with serials cataloging using AACR2, LCSH, MARC21 fo=
rmats, CONSER Manual and CONSER Editing Guide. Experience planning and mana=
ging projects. Experience with Millennium (Innovative Interfaces) software.=
Knowledge of non-MARC metadata schemes. Demonstrated participation in lib=
rary, university, state, and national programs and initiatives. Evidence of=
well-developed interpersonal skills, team-building, initiative, creative e=

Salary and Benefits: $55,000 - $65,000 annually, negotiable depending on q=
