Besides
the regular contributions to the community made daily by public
libraries, we are hearing each day how they are expanding their
capabilities and providing so much more in this economic crisis. This is
why, now more than ever, libraries need to stay strong and persevere.
Susan Carol Curzon of Library Journal has put together a comprehensive
list of strategies that library directors can use to help keep their
library thriving in these tough times.

American Comedy Archives Housed at Emerson College
The American Comedy Archives was established in 2005 at
Emerson College in Boston, MA. It was the idea of distinguished comedian
and Emerson alum, Bill Dana. The collection was started to preserve and
make available material of the people who have performed, written, or
produced comedy in all mediums. It is the first collection of its kind at
an academic institution devoted to this art form.
What to Do when Deciding Between Two Jobs?
If
you are one of the lucky unemployed people who now has two different job
offers to choose from you may quickly realize that this is a curse rather
than a blessing! How do you decide? Which is the better fit? No one wants
to go from being unemployed into a job they dislike or a field that's not
for them. Therefore, you want to enter into this decision-making with as
much information as possible. The best way to be prepared is to ask all
the right questions and know all the pros and cons of each position.
Blended Librarian Webcast — April 9th, 2009
Steven Bell and John Shank, co-founders of “The
Blended Librarian,” along with their guest, Nancy H. Dewald, are
hosting a webcast called, “Academic Library Administrators’
Perceptions of Critical Skills Needed by Librarians for the Instruction
Process,” on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 3pm EDT. Shank and Dewald
conducted a research study exploring today’s librarians attitudes
toward the skills needed to fill their role in the library and the
current impact on hiring trends. This is an especially timely subject in
today’s job market, so mark your calendars and RSVP for this free
event.
