The Ohio Historical Society seeks applications for the position of Curator I
in the Curatorial Services Department. Responsibilities include evaluating
and recommending potential acquisitions; cataloging; researching collections
and communicating findings through reports and other publications;
responding to inquiries from scholars, professionals, and the public;
planning and participating in educational programs and exhibit development;
assisting with the drafting of a collecting plan; and grant writing.
Well-qualified candidates will have a master's degree in history, museum
studies, or information science, plus one to three years' experience working
with museum, archival, or library collections. Strong verbal and written
communication skills are essential. The incumbent must be able to work well
independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of Ohio history and
prehistory is desirable, as is basic understanding of MARC cataloging.
Minimum salary is $33,842 per year. Some evening and weekend hours will be
required, as will occasional in-state travel.

*Qualifications/Job Description:*

*Education: *A high school education or equivalent is required, although a
college degree is preferred.  Must be willing to obtain a CPLM when offered
by the State Library and Archives.  Knowledge of automated office equipment
with a willingness to be trained is desirable.  Must have working knowledge
of computers and software.  The ability to deal effectively and courteously
with the public consisting of all ages and personalities is required.

*Experience:*  Previous public library experience is required.
*Position Summary: *The Branch Manager is responsible for the operation and
administration of the assigned facility including supervising staff and
volunteers; selecting, acquiring, cataloging, circulating, and weeding
library materials; assisting patrons with locating materials and using
various library equipment; promoting the library within the community
including programs and newspaper articles; maintaining and organizing an
appropriate stock inventory of reading and viewing materials; and
maintaining an adequate stock inventory of supply items necessary for
operating a public library.  Dresses appropriately at all times while
working in or representing the library.

Full-time position (35 hours per week).

*Physical:*
The work environment consists primarily of indoor activities.  Normal/corrected
eyesight and hearing within normal range is required.  Must be able to lift
and carry books and/or cartons of books weighing up to 40 pounds on an
occasional basis and must be able to lift and carry books up to 10 pounds on
a regular basis.  Stooping, bending and walking are required to restock
shelves and to assist customers with finding their requested
materials.  Climbing
is required on a regular basis through the use of movable step stools to
reach books placed on higher shelves.

*Essential Duties:*
1.         Carries out the policies of the library as adopted by the Board.
2.         Attends all Board meetings.
3.         Selects and orders all books, and materials according to the
Board’s Collection Development Policy.
4.         Maintains accurate patron and statistical records and submits a
variety of monthly and annual reports for the Board, Lebanon Library
Director and the Highland Rim Regional Library.
5.         Acts as public relations representative for the library,
attending meetings, posting notices in newspapers, arranging programs as
necessary.
6.         Makes full use of regional and state library services to provide
an appropriate stock of library materials to serve the needs of all library
patrons.
7.         Assists patrons in the use of the full range of library services,
materials and information resources.
8.         Accepts and acknowledges memorials, gifts and donations to the
library through personal contact or mail.
9.         Assists patrons and the public with reference services as needed.
10.       Maintains the facility in a neat and attractive appearance;
decorates the library for special occasions and informational items.
11.       Follows legal, professional, and ethical practices when making
decisions and carrying out responsibilities.
12.       Has knowledge of all circulation desk functions.
13.       Assists with shelving and re-shelving books and other circulating
materials.
14.       Answers phone routinely.
15.       Informs customers of status of overdue materials and availability
of requested books.
16.       Accepts and processes interlibrary loans for customers.
17.       Accepts payments for overdue materials, memorial gifts, lost
books, use of library equipment, and sale books; maintains fine logs and
prepares overdue notices.
18.       Assists in training and monitoring staff.
19.       Performs data entry and processing of new materials.
20.       Responsible for all Children’s Programs including Summer Reading
Program.
21.       Performs other related duties as required by circumstances or the
library director.

Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian /Library Assistant Professor -
University of Vermont Libraries

The University of Vermont Libraries' Center for Digital Initiatives (CDI,
http://cdi.uvm.edu/) seeks a detail-oriented, innovative, and energetic
librarian for the position of Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian. The
Institute for Museum and Library Services has recently awarded the
University of Vermont a 24-month grant to continue development of the
Libraries' digital initiatives. The main goal of this grant is to build a
user community for the CDI that will engage as active participants in the
development of the CDI and the content and services it provides. The Digital
Initiatives Metadata Librarian will provide expertise and leadership in the
creation and maintenance of metadata for digital content acquired or created
by the CDI. The Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian will help to develop,
refine, and implement policies, procedures, workflows, and metadata
standards for the CDI; manage digitization projects; and participate in the
overall management of the CDI.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides expertise and leadership in the creation and
maintenance of metadata for digital content acquired or created by the CDI;
provides descriptive, technical, and structural metadata for digital
content; evaluates and maintains quality control of metadata operations;
trains and supports metadata staff; maintains documentation on metadata best
practices; analyzes metadata needs and provides estimated metadata costs and
timeline for proposed projects; designs, implements, and manages project
workflows;collaborates with CDI and Libraries staff in selection of digital
projects and content; participates in the management of the CDI; promotes
and reports on CDI activities to local, regional, and national communities;
represents the CDI in professional and campus organizations and initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or
foreign equivalent; experience with metadata work on digital projects;
experience with XML.; experience with standards-based non-MARC metadata
schemas, such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD and TEI; knowledge of MARC;
familiarity with controlled vocabularies, such as LCSH, AAT, LCTGM, GNIS,
and TGN; demonstrated project management experience; excellent attention to
detail; ability to work independently and in a team environment; excellent
interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to professional
achievement and growth; commitment to diversity and inclusion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Working knowledge of digital asset management
systems; demonstrated understanding of preservation metadata, such as
PREMIS; experience in crosswalking, normalizing, and transforming xml
metadata; working knowledge of XSLT.
SALARY AND APPLICATION INFORMATION: Qualifications should merit appointment
at the rank of library assistant professor (non-tenure track). Salary is
commensurate with experience, not less than $49,191 for this position.
