Graduate Student Library Assistant

Description:

 

UT Libraries will be hiring graduate students from the School of
Information Sciences to work evening hours at the main reference desk of
Hodges Library.  For individuals interested in a library career, this is
an excellent opportunity to acquire reference experience and develop
public service skills.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The graduate student library assistants will provide the entire range of
reference services at the Hodges Library main research assistance desk,
including instruction to patrons in the use of print and electronic
resources,

telephone reference, and our chat reference service.    Other tasks may

be assigned as needed to assist on projects with Reference Librarians.

 

 

Qualifications Preferred:

 

Completion of SIS 530 (Information Access and Retrieval) or other
relevant experience.  Ability to communicate well.  Desire to assist the
public with information needs.  Experience using the library, including
use of the library catalog, periodical databases, and the Internet.
Ability to work evening hours until midnight.

 

 

This position does not include tuition remuneration.  The applicant may
hold other positions, including GA and GTA appointments at the
University of Tennessee.

 

 

Hours:

 

8 -12 hours per week, between 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight, at least 2
evenings per week, Sunday through Thursday.  More hours could be
available at a later date or when you fill in for another student.  Some
flexibility in scheduling during the course of the semester will be
possible.

 

 

Starting Pay:

 

$10 per hour.
