Description:
Knowledge Services (KS) of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) is
seeking a graduate student in Library and/or Information Science with
excellent communication skills who has completed (or is completing) his/her
first semester (or beyond) of graduate - level work to perform the following
duties. This position is being filled under the Student Career Experience
Program (SCEP).

Position Information:
Conduct Basic Reference Duties (legal and non-legal) to include searching
the GAO library's various online databases such as ProQuest, HeinOnline,
JSTOR, Nexis and OCLC First Search; Assists with designing various library
web pages to include developing the information architecture (taxonomy) and
assisting with usability testing for these web pages. Creates Just-in-Time
(JIT) training presentations for library online databases using PowerPoint.
These presentations are web-based tutorials showing library users how to
navigate and search specific databases. Assists other librarians in
developing web-based resource guides in various subject areas; this includes
identifying databases, periodicals, and other publications in areas of
interest to GAO. GAO's interests cover many subject areas including defense,
health care, education, transportation, energy, IT, finance, accounting,
etc.

Skills needed:
-experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and
PowerPoint;
-familiarity with HTML preferred, but not required;
-basic understanding of taxonomies and other web page organizational,
labeling, and navigating schemes
-excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary Level: GS-5, $15.94/ph; GS-7, $19.75/ph

Qualifications: Eligibility Requirements:

(SCEP). This program requires that the student's major must be related to
the work of the position. All applicants must also meet the following
minimum eligibility requirements. Applicants must be:
-enrolled at least half-time in a college or university pursing a bachelor's
degree,
-in good academic standing,
-a U.S. citizen.
*STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO COMPLETE 640 WORK HOURS BY THE TIME HE/SHE
COMPLETES THE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS (OR 320 WORK HOURS WITH OUTSTANDING
