1. Masters degree in
Library Science from an ALA-accredited graduate school.
2. Effective verbal and written communication
skills.
3. Commitment to providing excellent customer

4. Commitment to staff development and training.
5. Ability to successfully navigate and use the
Internet.
6. Working knowledge of automated library systems.
7. Valid driver’s license and dependable
personal transportation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Two years
public library experience and experience training and supervising employees.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
Beginning Salary Librarian I - $35,193
WORK HOURS: 37.5
hour work week; normal work schedule may include day, evening and rotating
Friday/Saturday hours.
DUTIES:
1. Organize,
train, direct, schedule, motivate and evaluate salaried, hourly, and volunteer
personnel.
2. Communicate,
model, and implement approved policies and procedures.
3. Manage materials
selection and collection development.
4. Conduct orientation
and on-the-job training programs for Branch personnel.
5. Schedule and conduct
regular branch staff meetings.
6. Develop
and implement a wide variety of children’s, young adult and adult
programs designed to meet identified community needs.
7. Prepare
regular service, management, statistical, inventory, financial and other
reports.
8. Monitor
library expenditures; submit purchase order requests, financial reports, and
other documentation, as required.
9. Review,
approve, and submit staff time cards and leave requests for all branch staff.
10. Provide excellent
customer service to all library users.
11. Deal
with customer-related issues and problems and notify the Central Jackson County
Area Manager and/or Director of any serious problems.
12. Develop list of staff
for Person-In-Charge responsibilities and review regularly.
13. Oversee the
development and preparation of quality displays and exhibits.
14. Conduct library
tours.
15. Serve
on any committees requested by Community or County officials as a representative of the library, as
approved by the Central Jackson County Area Manager and/or Director.
16. Keep current with
community affairs and needs.
17. Analyze
Branch needs and problems and recommend timely, cost-effective and creative
solutions.
18. Establish
and maintain channels of communication with local government, schools,
community groups and local organizations.
19. Coordinate
the local promotion and marketing of library materials, services and programs.
20. Attend
all Friends meetings and assist them with any fundraising efforts as needed.
21. Attend monthly Managers’ meetings
and other system meetings and training programs, including those involving
overnight travel, as required.
