Head, Reference
and Research Services
ODU is seeking an innovative, creative,
knowledgeable, and experienced library leader to serve as its Head of
Reference and Research Services. This person is responsible for the overall leadership, planning and management of
team based Reference and Research Services Department consisting of reference
desk services, distance learning programs, instructional programs, reference
/government documents collections and Digital Services Center. Manages
personnel administration of 8 professionals, 2 paraprofessionals, 2
classified, and part time staffing, departmental assessment and quality
control programs, public relations programs for Library including web pages,
reports, documentation, and publicity, department operations and
administrative processes. Participates in planning as member of Management
Team especially in development of Learning Commons for Library. Participates
in collection development and professional activities. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS;
progressively responsible administrative and management experience in an
academic or other library of comparable size; experience providing reference
and instructional services in an academic or research library environment;
demonstrated record of success managing and overseeing complex projects;
experience supervising and guiding staff, with strong interest in long-range
personnel planning and development of staff; experience planning, supporting,
and evaluating technologies and their utilization for advancing research,
teaching, and/or scholarship; demonstrated commitment to providing highly
responsive public service in all media and environments; evidence of
user-centered vision, creativity, and innovation; demonstrated ability to
work effectively with diverse staff and campus user communities; capacity to
thrive in an environment of change and respond effectively to shifting needs
and priorities; excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving, and
communication skills including the ability to present complex technical
information to a generalist audience Preferred: flexibility, tact and tolerance for ambiguity; experience
participating in collection development in an academic or research library;
experience collaborating with faculty, students, and other campus
stakeholders; knowledge of current technologies and their applications in a
research and educational environment; demonstrated ability to analyze user
needs, develop solutions, and assess results SALARY AND BENEFITS: Minimum salary $65,000
