Twelve-month appointment. Tenure-track, Assistant/Associate Professor Rank. Position can begin as early as October 1, 2008.

Under general direction of the Coordinator for User Services and the Team Leader for Reference and Instructional Services, develop and/or promote resources and collections and provide reference services designed to meet the information needs of students and faculty of a culturally diverse university.

-Teach general library research classes to undergraduate and graduate students using two electronic classrooms.
-Assume leadership role in the development of instructional web pages, tutorials, and guides highlighting library services and collections.
-Serve as a liaison for developing resources and collections.
-Build strategic partnerships with faculty, staff, and students in relevant diversity programs and campus constituencies
-Provide general and specialized reference service in person, via email, and through reference IM, including one partial Sunday per month plus some evening hours.
-Participate in other Reference and Instructional Services programs and projects, such as Research Coach (individual reference appointments) and Reference by Appointment.
-Serve as a member of the Reference and Instructional Services Team.
-Select resources in the reference collections and assist faculty in selecting resources for the general collection that support diversity and cultural studies programs.  

Minimum Qualifications

ALA accredited Masters degree. Two years reference and/or instruction experience. Ability to work creatively and effectively in a team environment to enhance library programs and services, to work well with students, faculty, and staff, to quickly learn new technologies and skills, and to meet promotion and tenure requirements which require scholarly activity and service. Ability to create web pages, online tutorials, and guides using relevant applications (e.g. HTML, Dreamweaver, Word). Knowledge of current trends in information literacy. Must demonstrate an understanding of diversity issues. Must also possess a strong commitment to high quality customer service, and excellent teaching, training, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to meet promotion & tenure expectations.

Position can begin as soon as filled. As a member of the Collection Management Department, and under general direction of the Coordinator, provide technological skills and computer support to assist Collection Management personnel and to develop innovative initiatives to meet challenges related to acquisitions, cataloging, and special collections.
- Work closely with Systems personnel to coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting related to the integrated library system (ILS) including ILS updates and updates/problems on staff computers.
- Help staff learn to use new software and make suggestions for applications that will increase efficiency and/or synchronize with the ILS or other systems.
- Run reports and provide statistical information when requested from Collection Management personnel.
- Work closely with Collection Management librarians on special projects.
- Maintain and enhance Collection Management web pages.
- Provide workshops and training for staff when needed.
- Assume selected collection development responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications             ALA accredited Master's Degree, demonstrated experience with an ILS system and computing applications, knowledge of technical services operations, project management skills, communication skills, customer service orientation. Ability to meet promotion and tenure expectations.  

Preferred Qualifications            A candidate who is knowledgeable about systems and computing applications, who learns quickly, and can work with library personnel at all levels of expertise. The candidate should possess knowledge of the routine functions of technical services especially acquisitions or cataloging. Familiarity with the MARC21 record format and other metadata schema is a plus, as is experience with Voyager. Measurable skills such as knowledge of XML, HTML, and CSS and languages such as SQL, PERL, PHP, JavaScript would be helpful.
