Subject: [UTKSIS-L] Internship/Job Opportunity
Bratislava Educational Resource Center is a
Christian ministry and resource center for missionary kids and ex-pat families
living and working in and around Bratislava, Slovakia. BERC has one of
the largest children's English library's in Bratislava and is in need of
librarians who will be willing to spend a month, semester, or year working to
develop the library's resources, catalog a lot of books, and work with the
school administrator on promoting and marketing the library. Being
willing to teach an ESL class or two to Slovak kids or adults is also a plus,
but not required.
I have been spending my sabbatical semester working to catalog books and teach
a couple ESL classes. This is a great opportunity for someone who is
interested in learning more about cataloging, children's collections, or
developing a library from the ground-up. The ability to be an
independent, self-starter, work with minimal supervision, and "jump right
in" are good qualifications. All instruction is done in
English. Knowing some Slovak is helpful, but not required. Since
BERC is a Christian ministry, individuals would need to be able to support the
mission, vision, and beliefs of the school. Additionally, individuals
would need to raise their own financial support.
Bratislava is a great city to live in as well. It is about an hour from
Vienna, two hours from Budapest, and four hours from Prague. This
is a great opportunity to serve in a cross-cultural setting and provide a great
service to a budding organization. If anyone is interested in finding out
more, please feel free to contact me at [log in to unmask], and I can put you in
touch with the school administrator.
