Given the level of interest in archives, I’m forwarding this
to the list. In general, there are a number of metadata jobs posted on
the listservs oclc-cat and autocat on a regular basis. I always point my
IS 521 students in that direction but others may also have an interest, so I
encourage you to join those listservs if only to see what the opportunities
might be.

Library at Florida Southern College seeks a Metadata/Catalog Librarian who will
have primary responsibility, under the direction of the Library Director, for execution of a project to create an online
digital archive containing approximately 4,000 images of Frank Lloyd Wright
materials in the College Archives. This position as a visiting librarian is a
temporary grant-funded appointment ending May 31, 2010. The successful
candidate will be skilled in processing, cataloging, and outreach for the
archives. Applications received by December 15, 2008 will be given preference.
The target start date is February 1, 2009.
Responsibilities
·
Coordinate
workflow for digitizing, processing, and cataloging Frank Lloyd Wright
materials for the digital collection
·
Catalog
and assign metadata to digital materials
·
Research
appropriate copyright, licensing, and rights management issues related to the
collection
·
Collaborate
with other librarians to create and implement best practices to the creation
and maintenance of the digitization project
·
Participate
in and/or supervise scanning activities including quality assurance for
processed images
·
Develop
finding aids for materials in the collection and other outreach programs
·
Maintain
schedules and deadlines mandated by the grant
·
Participate
in creating reports detailing the progress of the project
·
Co-supervise
student assistants
·
Other
duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
Qualified
candidates will have an ALA accredited master’s degree in Library and
Information Science, or a M.A. degree with an emphasis in archives management,
and knowledge of cataloging and metadata creation.
Preferred
Candidates
should also have experience using bibliographic utilities including OCLC,
integrated library systems, and content management systems such as CONTENTdm;
knowledge of various cataloging and metadata standards such as MARC21, XML,
EAD, Dublin Core, LCSH, DACS, and AACR2 as well as authority control; and
experience with digital scanning hardware and software including OCR software
and Photoshop. The ability to handle project planning and management
particularly in a college archive setting and supervisory experience is also
beneficial.
Salary
The
salary for this position was established during the grant application process
at the rate of $30,000 per 12 months, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
