Systems and Reference Librarian/Assistant Professor of Library Science


Tenure Track Position/Library Science Program

Responsibilities

Responsible for planning, implementation and coordination of programs
and services that support the use of computers and related technologies
in or throughout the library, including:  library website and web-based
service, technology training, emerging technology and hardware/software
upgrades, and completion of assigned reports in a timely manner for the
library. Assist in the development and recommendation of library
technology initiatives, e.g., electronic reserves, ILL, digitization
projects, etc.  Recommend technology standards, policies and procedures.
Assume a leading role in long-range strategic planning for the library's
future information technology needs. Serve as Library faculty liaison to
University technology groups.   Coordinate distance learning library
services, serve as liaison to the University Distance Learning Center,
and represent the Hill Library on the UW System Distance Services
Committee.  

 

Provide library reference and information assistance to students,
faculty, staff and community members; assist in the development of
library publications and presentations to promote the library and its
resources; work harmoniously with other staff members to achieve
efficient library operations; participate in the development of library
policies and procedures; may participate in direct supervision of
classified staff or student assistants; perform other library related
duties as assigned. 

 

This is a tenure track position that needs to meet the requirements for
teaching, scholarship, and service:  specifically, teach on campus and
at a distance within the Library Science Program; conduct scholarly
activities in library, learning resources or information technology
fields; actively participate in staff, faculty, committee and
professional meetings; active involvement in shared governance and
Departmental activities.  Work collegially with other staff members to
achieve the library's mission and goals.  

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

*         Possess a master's degree from an ALA accredited program

*         Library specific technology support experience

 


Desirable Qualifications


*         Experience in the planning, co-ordination, and management of
library automation systems, preferably in an academic setting.

*         Demonstrated knowledge and experience of library/information
technology standards, e.g., MARC, Z39.50 and bibliographic utilities. 

*         Demonstrated knowledge/experience of server, network,
workstation & software applications

*         Sufficient computer networking knowledge to effectively track,
report and communicate connectivity issues with library and automation
vendor staffs.

*         Library technology training experience.

*         Experience in providing reference service, including the use
of the Internet, online databases, and search strategies.

*         Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of
university students.

*         Possess leadership ability, strong problem solving skills,
public service orientation, excellent interpersonal/ communication
skills and commitment to continuous learning.
