Instruction Librarian or Library Instructor 

Gainesville State College - Gainesville Campus

 

Gainesville State College invites applications for a twelve-month
tenure-track faculty position in the John Harrison Hosch Library
beginning January 5, 2009.

Responsibilities:

*         Teach 6-7 hours of Library credit research classes and 40-50
one-hour general library instruction classes per year

*         Coordinate and schedule all general Library instruction
sessions at the Gainesville Library. Provide a variety of materials
including customized handouts

*         Serve as selector for Reference and as a library liaison to
one of  the College's academic divisions

*         Provide reference and circulation assistance at the
Information Help Desk about 8-10 hours per week

*         Maintain the Library room schedule for classes

*         Coordinate Library public relations efforts including
orientation tours, campus events, and  relations with regional public
and academic libraries

*         Serve on College, University System, and/or community
committees

*	Interact with the College's community through professional
service and involvement of students

*         Participate in appropriate faculty development activities

 

Qualifications:

*	EITHER an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master
of Library Information Systems (MLIS) OR graduate degree(s) in one of
the fields in the Social Sciences or Humanities offered by the College
and that graduate degree(s) must have required extensive print and
online research. Position title depends upon degrees. 
*	Commitment to and enthusiasm for classroom teaching
*	High level of competency with computers
*	Understanding of and commitment to the implementation of diverse
instructional techniques
*	Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships  
*	Excellent oral and written communication skills
*	Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and
priorities
*	Preferred: successful teaching experience; library work
experience, proficiency with WebCT or other eLearning classroom
management software

 

Salary/Rank:     

*         Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and
experience

*         Anticipated salary range:  $35,000- $42,000

The College:  Gainesville State College, a unit of the University System
of Georgia, is comprised of two campuses with a total enrollment of over
8,500 students. The Gainesville Campus, the original campus, is adjacent
to the interstate network forty-five miles northeast of downtown Atlanta
in Oakwood. The Oconee Campus enrolls over 2,200 of the College's
students and is located in Watkinsville, Georgia, approximately eight
