Position:

Assistant Professor- Instruction Librarian (Tenure Track), 12-month position

Sam Houston State University library is looking for an innovative, enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to provide leadership in planning, implementing, promoting and assessing the Library’s instructional services. This position works collaboratively in a team-based environment to design and develop materials to facilitate access to collections including handouts, web-based tutorials, and content-subject modules that teach research skills. The instruction Librarian will work to identify partnerships with campus programs and departments and seek ways to integrate library resources and instruction into academic programs.

Degree Requirements:

ALA accredited master's degree in Library Science required; additional advanced degree desirable.

Experience Requirements:

Successful experience or training in library user education and/or instructional technology; successful experience in the use of traditional and electronic reference sources in an academic library; effective written and oral skills.

Preference will be given to the candidates with reference desk experience in an academic library; successful teaching experience, experience with course management software, experience or training in the use of Web authoring tools and desktop publishing software. Participates in night and weekend reference (rotation), library teams and other professional/scholarly activities in keeping with faculty guidelines.

Environment:

Sam Houston State is located in historic Huntsville, one quarter of the way from Houston to Dallas, at the boundary between the Piney Woods region of East Texas and the Prairies and Lakes region of Central Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 16,400 students and a faculty of 650.

Usual Duties:

Coordination of Library instruction includes being the primary instructor of library instruction classes. Schedules instructional sessions; plans and schedules workshops with other librarians. Develops expertise in assigned subject areas and maintains current awareness of new reference initiatives. Basic reference service from a general reference desk. Collection development in one or more subject areas.

Salary:

Minimum salary of $42,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
