Baylor University Libraries is seeking a librarian who has an enthusiasm for working with students and collaborating with faculty, a facility with technology and its application in an academic context, and a demonstrated interest in the sciences.

POSITION: Science Librarian

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Science Librarian provides general and specialized research assistance and curriculum-integrated information literacy programs for the sciences, computer science, engineering and related disciplines; participates in collection development and liaison activities for assigned academic units, developing strong partnerships with faculty in those units; analyzes trends in the research programs and curricula of assigned units, keeps current with trends in the literature and scholarship of the disciplines themselves, and uses this knowledge to build and manage the Libraries' collections in assigned disciplines; promotes new modes of scholarly communication and solicits Baylor’s scholarly output for inclusion in the institutional repository; contributes to the development of online learning resources and tools; maintains and develops subject Web pages; supports and enhances faculty use of course management software; represents Baylor at regional and national conferences and meetings; meets University expectations for scholarship and service; and serves on Library and University committees as appointed or elected.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited Master's degree in library science required or equivalent combination of education and professional experience; knowledge in one or more of the following areas: science, computer science, engineering, and mathematics, plus competency to serve clients in all scientific fields; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and library clients in a service-oriented, research intensive environment; effectiveness in preparing and conveying information in a variety of learning environments; familiarity with the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy; facility with technology and its application in academic contexts; and demonstrated creativity, initiative and self-direction.

 

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate Librarian. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
