 Digital Repository Librarian

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  This 12-month, tenure-track position participates in the development and maintenance of an institutional repository for Indiana State University and provides technical support for library and campus digital initiatives including the Wabash Valley Visions & Voices Digital Memory Project.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification, adaptation and implementation of appropriate digital repository technologies and will possess the ability to interact effectively with library colleagues, Office of Information Technology professionals, teaching faculty, and students.  In addition, the incumbent will serve as the web master for Wabash Valley Visions & Voices, a collaborative regional digital repository that utilizes CONTENTdm as its management system, and be involved in addressing digital preservation issues related to this and other digital initiatives.  The Digital Repository Librarian may also engage in metadata creation.  Responsibilities may include travel to other locations to provide training and participation in evening and/or weekend special events.  ISU librarians are expected to participate in university and library governance and to engage in professional activities, including research and publication, in order to attain tenure and promotion.  See http://library.indstate.edu/about/jobs/jobs.html for complete details.

 

SUPERVISION:  Reports to the Coordinator of Library Digital Initiatives.  May supervise support staff and student employees assigned to digital initiative projects, as needed.

 

MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-accredited Master’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of two years of academic library experience.  The position requires demonstrable experience with digital repository technology, web design, XML, knowledge of CONTENTdm, metadata standards, and programming languages such as PHP or Perl, as well as effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with culturally diverse individuals, both external and internal to the library; and the ability to participate fully as a tenure-track library faculty member.

Head of Circulation Department

                                   

POSITION SUMMARY12-month tenure track position.  Manages circulation, reserves, billing, stacks, and interlibrary loan services.  Coordinates, communicates, and serves as primary source of information to patrons and staff regarding circulation policies and procedures. Collaborates with other library units concerning circulation and interlibrary loan services. Serves as contact for the continued integration and implementation of circulation and interlibrary loan into the library automated system. SUPERVISIONReports to and is evaluated by the Dean of the Library.  Supervises up to 12 full-time support staff members and about 20 student assistants. 

 

MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONSALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree.  Experience with library automated systems and PC applications.  Ability to make decisions independently and function effectively in a busy environment.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Interpersonal skills that allow for active and effective interaction with peers and a diverse population of library users.  Ability to participate fully as a tenure-track library faculty member, including service to library, university, and community; professional development; and a strong service commitment.
