CHILDREN'S SERVICES LIBRARY MANAGER II

SALARY: $49,916.00 / Year

THE POSITION:
This position is with the Metropolitan Public Library and is responsible
for overseeing and supervising the daily operations of a medium branch
or department, or assisting with the administration of a major area of
the library system. THE CURRENT OPENING IS FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICES DEPT.
IN THE MAIN LIBRARY DOWNTOWN, BUT THIS LIST MAY BE USED TO FILL SIMILAR
LIBRARY VACANCIES.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

--Supervising the employees working in his/her area 
--Performing the more difficult or complex professional work in his/her
area 
--Developing and maintaining library materials collections 
--Providing Reference and Reader's Advisory service to the public 
--Assisting the public with the use of library materials and equipment 
--Receiving and attempting to resolve complaints from the public 
--Setting goals, assessing staffing and physical resource needs, and
planning and organizing programs or activities 
--Working with the administrative staff to prepare the budget 
--Writing or assisting with written grant proposals and/or overseeing or
coordinating the implementation of grant funded programs 
--Serving on committees dealing with specific library functions or
services 
--Promoting the programs and services of the library in the community 
--Coordinating successful systemwide programs 
--Participating in outside agencies that partner with the library 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or
university and four (4) years of professional library experience,
including two (2) years experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, in
a library setting. The Library Science program must also be accredited
by the American Library Association. A valid "Class D" driver's license
may be required. No Substitution for the Master's Degree and/or the
experience. 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

--Knowledge of children's programs and projects 
--Experience in an educational setting
