The University of Tennessee (UT) Libraries seeks energetic, innovative, and service-oriented individuals to join the Integrated User Services team as the Instructional Services Librarians for User Education Technologies or for Digital Media Technologies.

 

This newly-created department consists of:

 

§         Library Commons Services as part of The Commons-a collaboration of the Libraries and the Office of Information Technology

§         The Studio-a multimedia production lab and consultation service

§         Research Assist-a walk-in research consultation service

§         Media collections and services

§         Circulation services

§         Instructional services

 

This department provides innovative undergraduate student programming, classroom support, and leadership of emerging technologies for Commons and Research Services librarians and instructional support for general education and student success

 

Position Descriptions:

Works as part of a team of instruction librarians to teach basic library research and critical thinking skills to undergraduate students as part of their college learning experience.  Works with faculty to incorporate library research skills and evaluation of scholarly knowledge into the undergraduate curriculum through the use of new technologies as part of that learning process.  Creates and deploys emerging technologies in delivering library instruction and library research services that include the use of social communication networks and Web 2.0 technologies. Joins all Commons staff to provide the highest quality information services and user education programs.  May supervise one or more staff members.

 

            For User Education Technologies:  Collaborates with Commons and Research Services librarians to incorporate technology into the development of new and established instructional programs.  Facilitates the use and creation of online instructional materials, tutorials, and other digital learning objects as part of the library instructional design process.

 

            For Digital Media Technologies:  Provides vision for the development of services and advocacy for new media technologies and delivery methods.  Plans, creates, and evaluates media-enhanced instructional work.  Promotes the use of new digital media among teaching faculty through services offered by the Commons and Research Services departments.

 

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree. Strong commitment to public service, information literacy, and support of the academic needs of students and faculty.  Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to the philosophy behind the continuing evolution of a learning commons.  Proficiency with a range of web authoring tools, such as Dreamweaver, Flash, iMovie, Photoshop, and some experience with web scripting using PhP and Java script. Experience building dynamic web pages and integrating multimedia content into web pages.  Understanding of the application of Web 2.0 technologies and experience using social networking software.  Ability to plan and implement innovative instruction and user services.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment accompanied by initiative, self-direction, and commitment to innovation, creativity, and excellence.  Commitment to research and creative achievement in a tenure track faculty position.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience or preparation for instruction. Knowledge of emerging trends in the creation and delivery of media in instructional settings and experience working with a wide range of visual and audio formats and standards. Experience working with instructional technologies in a multi-platform environment.

Salary and Benefits:
Appointment at rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, dependant on experience. Minimum salary is $44,000. Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure. Excellent benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state retirement plan or TIAA/CREF with nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by the University; optional group health and life insurance plans. Tuition remission is available for all university employees; partial undergraduate tuition remission is available to dependent children and spouses of UT employees.
