Digital Library Services Program Coordinator

Monthly salary: $ 5271 negotiable depending on qualifications.

 

Purpose of position:  Visionary leader to serve as Head of Digital Library Services. Management of web site development & maintenance for both public & staff; operation & development of the Digital Media Studio; planning & execution of digitization projects.

 

Essential functions:  Administration of the Digital Library Services Program Area, including: planning, budget preparation & oversight, assessment & evaluation, staff training & development, management reports and the monitoring of personnel and other resources. Coordinates Digital Library Services with other Library depts. to provide development & maintain support for web products, digitization, the Digital Media Studio, off-campus access to electronic resources, & support for other online resources. Creatively builds new services and relationships that anticipate and respond to the changes in the direction of higher education and the technology revolution. Participates in the Library's planning and assessment activities. Identifies joint program initiatives and assigns program staff and resources to these as appropriate. Monitors national & international trends & developments relevant to the program area and initiates changes as indicated. Develops and implements mechanisms to assess progress toward goals and unit effectiveness. Develops budget proposals in relation to the program area goals and allocates the resources assigned. Serves on the Library Management Team, the Coordinators Team, and other teams and committees as appropriate. Responsible for design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls that comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

Required qualifications:  Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited institution. At least 5 years of post-MLS professional library experience in a research or academic library, 3 years of which includes supervisory experience. Minimum 3 years experience in a four-year academic setting. Demonstrated leadership, communication, project management, and technology skills. Knowledge of trends impacting libraries and technology, particularly web-based services. Knowledge of hardware and software requirements for web sites, digitization projects, and digital media labs. Experience in database-driven web site development using Java and MySQL on Linux and Windows platforms. Experience in the planning and execution of digitization projects. Experience with the operation, maintenance, and development of a Digital Media Studio. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

Preferred qualifications:  Second advanced degree in a related field. 3 years experience in the management of large, complex web sites, especially academic or academic library web sites. 3 years experience with complex technology projects. Professional development, conferences, and training may require travel and/or overnight accommodations. The position may work non-traditional hours, such as nights, weekends, and some holidays. The Digital Library Services Program Area is located in the basement of the Central Library.
