Sheridan Libraries of Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) have
developed a growing program of innovative entrepreneurial services,
especially in the area of distance education. These programs revolve
around the design and implementation of virtual library services to
external organizations and institutions in secondary and higher
education. Developed through the Entrepreneurial Library Program

virtual libraries are designed to provide exceptional information
services, to meet applicable accreditation and licensing standards, and
to offer a platform to extend the profession's ability to serve learners
at a distance. These programs serve as an innovative national model. 

Sheridan Libraries seek a highly motivated librarian to join its virtual
library team. The librarian will have an interest in working with a
nontraditional higher education population on a virtual library service
and will cultivate and maintain good working relationships with the
community served. Responsibilities include: providing telephone and
e-mail reference; offering instructional services including chat
sessions; maintaining and further developing a virtual library Web site
which includes discipline-specific information resources and links to
publicly accessible and licensed electronic resources; selecting
electronic resources to support the institution's educational goals; and
evaluating resources and services on an ongoing basis. 

Qualifications: The successful candidate should be an early career
librarian with an MLS from an ALA-accredited library school.  Ability to
develop and maintain, via the Web, instructional programs for students
in the use of a virtual library's resources and services; understanding
of delivering reference services in a virtual environment; familiarity
with a range of electronic resources; high customer service orientation;
excellent verbal and written communication skills; superior time
management and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively,
proactively, and flexibly. An interest and demonstrated experience in
learning and applying new technologies.
