The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center (http://www.knowledgecenter.unr.edu/) offers high-tech computing spaces and traditional reading rooms, provides art display areas, a 168 seat auditorium, a coffee shop, and a robotic book retrieval system, as well as office and work areas for over 100 permanent staff members and approximately 150 student employees. With a five-story atrium and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and city lights, the building is a campus centerpiece and a social, as well as intellectual, hub for over 16,000 University of Nevada students. The Libraries seek an energetic individual to serve as an Applications Development Librarian. Position will take a leading role in recommending, configuring, designing, and developing applications that support the library's initiatives to provide user-friendly, integrated access to an extensive and rich collection of licensed electronic resources and unique resources in digital format. This position will also provide software customization for vendor-provided applications in response to user needs and the libraries' goals and objectives. The successful candidate will possess an optimal blend of interest, aptitude, skills and experience in the use of information technology to provide access to resources and metadata. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment are also expected. Minimum qualifications include an MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program; experience with relational database design, management and maintenance (SQL Server preferred); skills with some or all of the following development tools: XML, ASP.NET, Perl, Javascript, C#, PHP; knowledge of current and emerging technologies in digital and web-based library services; knowledge of library metadata formats, particularly MARC.
