The University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Library and Information
Studies anticipates an opening for a full-time, tenure-track, academic year,
continuing position beginning in Fall 2008. Teach three graduate courses
per semester. Develop and deliver courses in library and information science.
Faculty duties include: teaching both at Kingston and in the New England
Regional Program during the academic year, both face-to-face and via online
delivery platforms; student advisement; service on URI, GSLIS, and professional
committees; research and scholarly publication.
Required: Doctorate in library and information science or related
field earned by time of appointment (preferably by August 15, 2008);
master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; demonstrated
ability for highly effective teaching; demonstrable ability for research,
scholarship, and service; ability to teach required and elective courses in
information science and technology; teaching and research interests in two or
more of the following areas: information technology, digital resources,
information storage and retrieval, organization of knowledge and information,
information policy, legal issues, archives, special collections, and/or
appropriate related fields.
Preferred: professional experience in libraries or information
centers; experience in teaching online; ability to participate in
interdisciplinary teaching and research. Review of applications will
