DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Position is in Government Records Branch, Archives and Record Section.
Physical location: State Records Center. Oversees and directs all activities
of State Agency Services Unit. Manages budgeted resource use; administers
all aspects of personnel policies; prioritizes requests for services and use
of personnel. Follows and directs compliance by staff to all laws and
regulations for security of, and access to, public records in care of
agency. Assures efficient use of space, equipment, and supplies. Oversees
and directs operations of State Records Center (SRC), preventing
unauthorized destruction of records. Assures best utilization of storage
spaces, timely and accurate entering of accessions data. Monitors usage of
records storage containers and oversees box invoicing system. Oversees
maintenance and security of all office and storage spaces. Oversees
arrangement and description of state agency archival records. Oversees
specific aspects of the arrangement, description, and microfilming of
Supreme Court cases and consults on questions regarding land grant project.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of North Carolina agency history and related
reference sources. Proven strong leadership, service-orientation, and
interpersonal skills in coordinating multiple tasks and activities. Proven
knowledge of records management methods and trends (including electronic
records) and principles and practices of archival administration. Exemplary
organizational and analytical skills; ability to communicate effectively
both in writing and orally. Demonstrated ability to use initiative and
judgment. Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees
and staff in state agencies.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in history,
library science, or a related social science and three years of progressive
experience in archives and records work, preferably with one year in an
advanced, specialized or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination
of training and experience.
