Technical Services Librarian

 

The University of St. Thomas, a private university committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a Technical Services Librarian to work at the Doherty Library beginning in May 2008. This is a full-time faculty tenure track position.  An ALA accredited MLS is required.  A second master’s degree is required for tenure.

 

The Technical Services Librarian will be responsible to perform all of the cataloging for the Doherty Library.  Among the cataloging responsibilities are copy and original cataloging, authority files, added volumes and copies, content notes, preparation of books for the bindery, book repair, and other cataloging tasks.  Supervison and training of student assistants and quality control of the student assistant work are required.  The Technical Services Librarian is also responsible for the management of the library online system (currently Sirsi Dynix).  Additional responsibilities include maintenance of the remote access software (EZ Proxy) and resolution of any problems with the EZ Proxy software. Training will be provided as needed. This is an excellent opportunity to learn library automation in an environment that values a cooperative and collaborative work ethic.

 

This position requires computer skills, excellent written and oral communication, and organizational skills. Cataloging experience using AACR II and OCLC Connexion is preferred.  Knowledge of the MARC records format is required.  Knowledge of SQL is preferred.  Experience with the Sirsi Dynix system is not required, but some experience with online library systems preferred.
